Default Lunch Price Crunch - Another experiment attributable to boredom

Yup, another very random thread.
I've been watching my calorie intake for the last month or so and whilst doing it wondered just how few pence I can eat.

I'm starting this week with just lunches. Monitoring eating for the other meals is a bit trickier as they are made up of multiple items and not always bought at the same time etc.

So, my challenge for this week is to make do with my food I bought at Sainsbury's today
2x tins of no brand beans
and 1x no brand loaf
Should give me 4 days supply of bean butties

Spending a grand total of £1.05
26p/day.

At the risk of sounding like that character off the fast show, next week I'll try cereal along with milk pilfered from work it might work out cheaper.

You sound like the sort of person that's got a hardy stomoch, and is easily goaded into poorly thought out diet concepts.

Google "mystery can game"

I did this a few years ago. It was interesting.

Surely the milk pilfered from work has to be paid for by somebody and should therefore be factored into the price?

Well I definitely am easily goaded into poorly thought out plans but the hardy stomach is where I fall down.

I don't like much variety of food at all, otherwise that does sound surprisingly entertaining. I'm currently googling the out of date food places to see what they have to offer. I'm sure there was a place a while back that was selling mystery tins too, the labels had fallen (or been taken) off and you took your pick.
Sadly the only tins I like are Mushy Peas, Processed Peas, Baked beans and tomato soup, think that about covers the entirety of tinned foods that I eat, disappointing really but I've always been a funny eater.

As my mum famously described me, I'm a vegetarian that doesn't like vegetables.

Day 2 of my 26p lunches down, I think 3 and 4 are going to be bumper days as I'm not even half way through my loaf.

The point about accounting for the milk, I should (and probably will in another column) but if your neighbour has chickens and gives you some eggs, would you cost them out too? I will give it a miss but I won't take any liberties in extending the caveat to shoplifting I promise

Go for the oats and milk combo
£2.89 for 2kg of oats and stuff (this will last you a while)
Then pilfer the milk from maccies service station on the way into work.
I estimate that you could live for quite some time on that!

try packet noodles... 11p per pack for the value/smart price ones in tesco/asda.
so your £1.05 could get you 9 days of food* with change left over

*If you can call it food but it keeps you going till the evening.

Sadly, the blog seems to have been culled. Still, it was 3 years ago...

Surprisingly, none. However, fermented bean curd, past its sell by date is quite foul in chilli, and I did eat a lot of beans that week. I still rate the lychee pizza...

This is a shame. And I wish you well on your quest. My first thought would be, how opposed are you to pasta & tomato sauce? I used to buy pasta, and own brand tomato sauce from Lidl as a placement student and remember it was a pretty cheap way to eat!
