Default Beowulf Exhaust backfires, bad for my bike?

I have fitted a Beowulf slip-on.

Now that it's bedded in, it sounds really lovely, especially with the db killer removed!

In particular, it can produce some pretty impressive backfires - complete with flames.

BUT - is that damaging my engine in any way? The sound and the backfires and gurgling is very nice, but I don't want to damage the engine.

If it's anything like my Delkevic stubby, it pops and bangs like a goodun on the over run. I believe it's quite normal. I'm pretty sure somebody more knowledgeable will be along shortly to give a better explanation. It does sound pretty epic though doesn't it.

You should fit a PC as its not so good having unburned fuel washing the bore of oil,Lean Mixtures often backfire
You Tried a Performance filter as they sometimes counter act each other ?

if a can was the only change you made and was fitted correctly, then you shouldn't have excessive back firing or flames, I suspect you haven't sealed it very well

However, it's unlikely (but no promises) to damage the engine, but if your can is a race one and has packing in it, this will be stripped out far quicker, leaving the skin (especially if it's carbon) susceptible to heat damage or distortion.

Cheers Mark.

So, mine being a curvy could be running a little on the lean side. It generally pops and bangs when rolling off after quick burst of acceleration? If I'm being a bit more conservative with the throttle it doesn't do it anywhere near as much.

i think the only way it could damage is if it backfired back through the cabrs/airbox. its unlikely but im sure some people on here have had it happen, but no mention of damage.

flames look cool dont they
