Which e-cig did you get? Been thinking about getting one myself to try and give up and there are a few around. Looking at the reviews, the green smoke one comes top a lot.

Ali. You should have spoken to Jon last weekend on the ride, he has been using one those ecig things for over a year and has not smoked a real one since starting. Seems to have worked for him.

B/F, After nearly 50 years of the habit I am on CHAMPIX, it is a progressive course of tablets to help with the withdrawal . Currently down from 15-18 per day to 2-3 per day and have set myself Sunday as "Stop" day. It is a struggle but I will be giving it my best shot.
Worst bit for me is early morning and if I can get past 9:00am it isn't to bad then as the morning pill kicks in till tea time when I take the second of the day. Everybody has their own way of dealing with stopping but I would suggest going to your doctor and trying the champix 14 day course, even with your E-cigs. Been using a Tornado Tank (very clean, ie no messing about re-filling, just change cartridge) for a year and a bit although I still dabble on the analogues for a bigger hit on big bike runs and at the pub.
Save an absolute fortune. And I'll not lose my job! I use this mob. Liquid delivered within a day usually. http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.co....-products.html Plenty gen here too: http://ukvapers.com/ Can feel a little junkie-ish cos you have "kit". ![]() |

1 year before actually quitting, I've used e-cigs for half a year. They were great for getting back some lung capacity and building up the funds once again (it was far cheaper than combustion cigs). But ultimately, once I had achieved those things (better lungs & more spending money) I went back to combustion cigs, as I felt I'd "earned" the right to.
What really did it for me was reading someones opinions about smoking that gradually changed my understanding of it. I don't mean to diminish anyone's effort to quit, but when I read comments as those from Dicky Ticker, who states that he went from 1 pack a day to 2-3 a day, I see that he's actually digging himself deeper. Here's why I think this is so : when you abstain from something you want, you end up wanting that thing even more. Although he now makes an effort to quit, it's just that : an effort. He's not actually stopping himself from smoking. I know, because I've been there, pausing for a while and then starting smoking all up again once I felt I'd left it for long enough to "claim my right to smoke". The real breakthrough is when you understand you no longer enjoy smoking. It's when you understand that you can't enjoy anything in life without marking it with the mark of a cig : you need to smoke after a good meal, you need to smoke after after a good swim, you need to smoke after you've had a great lay etc etc. It's when you see that it's smoking that gets you down 20mins after you've finished your cig and lifting you back up to what normal people perceive of life when you finally decide to pick up another cig. Don't get me wrong, I fully applaud the e-cig, as I think it makes 2 main contributions: 1. You get healthier as the nicotine itself is not that bad and you get your finances back. 2. It's a real first step into understanding that you don't want to be a smoker and that you want to stop it. As a reference point, I haven't smoked in about 2 years and I know for a fact I will never pick up smoking again. This is after 12 years of smoking, time in which I would always preach to others how good my life is because I "enjoy" smoking. |

Congrats to all of you who are cutting down or using e-cigs. I think any effort to stop smoking should be applauded.
I do agree with what Andreis is saying though. I smoked 20-30 a day for 4 years and loved it. Had no intention of stopping and didn't really care. For me, I say I was lucky. I went into my local and it started with me being annoyed at the price of a pack from the vending machine. Then I sat down and a friend asked what was wrong as I had not even said hello to anyone, just walked in pub and straight to get a pack of cigarettes. I thought to myself that nothing was wrong, I had had a good day, so why was I so in need of a cigarette? Then I lit one up and perhaps because I was already in a contemplative mood, my next thought was, OH GOOD GOD, that tastes disgusting. It felt nice as always, but I just realised how horrible the taste was. It just kind of became very clear to me that my life was being run around the stupid little things. It was like a lightbulb lit up in my head and I realised that I had spent the last four years having my life dictated to me by an inanimate object that was actually doing me harm. I gave that cigarette to my boyfriend along with the rest of the packet and decided I would never smoke again. I never even got a craving because it was such a clarity of thought that they weren't even nice and that there was no way I was going to be controlled by a little white stick that did it. Good luck to all who want to give up. ![]() |
