Hi guys,
I have recently been looking into the scottoiler systems as it seems like a very good way to improve the life of my chain whilst reducing maintenance times. Having a look at their website, I can see that they sell the vSystem & the eSystem. The eSystem seems to utilise electronics to do effectively the same job and charges a £120 price premium for it? i.e. over double the price The benefits I can see are that the eSystem is: 1) Slightly easier to install as you do not have to worry about attaching the vacuum pipe to the engine 2) The eSystem has more (and easier) fine tuning as you can set the exact flow rate 3) The electronic read out tells you how much chain lube you have left 4) The reservoir is slightly larger meaning you do not have to worry about topping up as often. As far as I can see, apart from on initial setup when the eSystem is easier to get in place and adjusted as nessesary with flow rates the benefits seem marginal as it just comes down to checking the reservoir for how much is there and filling it up when necessary which would be less often as it has a larger capacity? Even then, you can buy larger capacity reservoirs for £30 & £40 respectively as additional accessories. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the eSystem and knows if there are additional benefits I am missing or if I am underestimating the benefits mentioned being worth the £110 price premium? Go with the vacuum system.
It's very well proven, well known, well supported and practically bulletproof.

Hi Ravi
I had the same conundrum when fitting a Scottoiler to the VFR and decided to go with the V-system because of a) the price differential, b) I had run various versions of the vacuum Scottoiler on several bikes without issue and c) so much less to go wrong. I would back Y-C's appraisal of the vacuum system. ![]() |

I have the V-system. It was a doddle to install. The connection to the carb pipe is a simple cut, install their T piece and run the vacuum pipe back to where you install the reservoir.

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the feedback, it does seem that the vSystem would be better out of the two. However, I have been doing some more research and stumbled across the PDOiler. Its an electronic system but is actually cheaper than the vSystem and is confusing me now. From what I have seen so far, it seems to get decent reviews and apparently an old Ride magazine showdown put it equal to the vSystem and both above the eSystem! Has anyone had experience with the PDOiler by any chance? Last edited by rav101; 10-07-12 at 03:08 PM. |

scottoiler. invented in 1977 tried, tested and refined. all others are just imitations. dont bother with supposed electronic ones even the scottoiler one as there is more to go wrong. once the vacuum one is set up its done and all you need to do is top it up every 500 odd miles.
i'm on 10,500+ miles and i'm still on the original chain and sprockets which look brand new and have never moved off the adjuster marks since the initial stretch but i tend to over oil my chain as i would rather spend money on oil than chain and sprockets. |

yup as i have noticed that the good stuff washes off where used engine oil sticks to tyres. £8 for a years biking is nowt. in fact the bottle i have says £4.99 and has lasted 10,000 miles with some left.

Yup, vsystem for me too. Fit it, fill it (now and again), forget it. I first had one back in the 80's, fitted to an old side valve single Beezer. It worked brilliantly then as the one I have fitted to the SV does now.

MCJ-DEV has the Tutoro automatic oiler on his SV and rates it very highly. No vacuum or electronics involved so it is very simple to fit. It simply uses the motion of the bike and suspension to open a valve.
