Default What did you get up to at the weekend?

Given that we had a long weekend I guess most people did things they might not normally have time to do.

I decided to walk the Sandstone Trail, or as much of it as I could.

I got dropped off in Frodsham around 8:30 and set off with my new rucksack, bladder, iphone and spare batteries for it as it was going to be busy logging my route, calculating distance, elevation and pace etc.

The overview of the route: (sorry for the size, it looks rubbish resized though)

I'd hoped to reach Beeston Castle, I could see it from Mile 12 but couldn't quite get there in the end. I needed to call in my rescue team (my wife) from a road so the final section wasn't going to be possible.

The interactive map is here:
http://www.mapmyhike.com/routes/full...129203819/beta it looks really neat in satellite view as you get more of a sense of scale.
I'm not sure on the discrepancy between the left and right counter saying 20 and 16 miles as my phone said I'd covered 20 but I suspect the 16 is closer to reality as the trail is supposed to be 30ish miles long.

Yesterday was written off recovering on the sofa, small stumbles to the kitchen and back, today I'm pretty much mobile again, just couldn't swing my leg over my bike to ride in so took the car

Slightly silly perhaps but I just wanted to set out and walk until I couldn't walk anymore and that was about my limit. After all, how hard can it be to just keep plodding? Walking is merely a series of falls that we stop by putting one foot in front of the other.....

I'd also had two books that inspired my odd thought, A Walk In The Woods by Bill Bryson and The Long Walk by Richard Bachman (Stephen King).
Completely different books but both are excellent reads/listens.

Abiding by "The Long Walk" rules, mine would have ended just before I left Delamere Forest, a meagre 8.5 miles in.

And compared to the Appalachian trail exploits of Mr Bryson the elevation changes are insignificant.

But, the net result is that I enjoyed my day, walked from Frodsham to within sight of the Farmers Arms (meeting point of the Border Patrol) and continued for a further 6 miles. It helped that the phone massaged my ego by telling me I'd surpassed the 20 mile barrier but in the back of my mind I knew it couldn't be right.

Anyway, what about the rest of you? what did you get up to?

Holy crap LP! that's immense! I'd consider that a long ride on my SV! and 7000ft of ascent, geez.
I'd like to get back into cycling but just some consumer grade stuff not the iron man level a lot of the residents here seem to be operating on!

I went to Rovers V Leicester on Saturday and to the pub to watch Liverpool V City on Sunday.

Walking up Livesey Branch Road to the Brown Cow after the game is enough exercise after a couple of months of closed season slobbing.

Managed to spend £80 on ale over the two days. So Preston would be proud of me.

A warning for you fitness freaks.

A football/drinking friend has now been ordered by his doctors to stop his running. It has damaged his heart and a widening to the arteries. He is now limited to jogging a few miles each day. He found when he was a rest his heart rate and blood pressure dropped to the point that he was feinting. No such danger with me.

I went to Carfest in Hampshire (wife's idea). T'was quite good, Zonda's, Ferrari's, Lamborghini's and lots of other expensive cars , no bikes though
Music was OK but the crowd was a bit middle class. "You take Jessica to bed I'll stay here with Rupert"

Crawled around in damp and dark places, but that's a normal working weekend for me.
