Default About the millionth 'recommend me a phone' thread.

My works phone is up for renewal this month. If I can get the company to stretch to an iphone I will.... simple as, whether it is 3gs wouldn't matter to me.

What I don't know is whether they will still do those, or whether they will be tight and insist i get something else.

Assuming I can't get an iphone what else is good?

I need:
Phonecalls;
Texts;
ability to access my works e-mails via a remote exchange;
ability to sync my work calendar via a remove exchange;
ability to sync my work contacts via a remote exchange;
internet;
camera is useful but not essential;
good battery;
access to apps like iGeology would be good (and i know they've got a new app that only works on android);
fairly robust - will be used on building sites and may get dropped.

I've been an iPhone devotee for the past few years, so don't know what else to look for..... my existing works phone is a htc wildfire (early version) which does some of the above well, but not all (internet is non-existant).

A lot of companies are going for the S2 it would seem. Great phone and recently come down in price due to the S3.

Brand new S2 will be coming tomorrow.

Wouldn't have wanted the S3 because it's too big.

There was a charge for the iPhone 5, so didn't want that.

Could have got an iPhone 4s, but the insurance cost would have doubled, plus I have a personal 4s and I can see me picking the wrong one up (although it would have been handy for the chargers).

The Nokia Lumina was also offered, but chap at work has that and it's crap. And there was a blackberry in there somewhere, but I think they keyboards are too small.

So..... Reading the reviews the S2 can be a bit techie and you need to personalise it a bit to make it a bit more user friendly..... but there are a lot of 'rubbish' apps. Any recommendations on what is useful to have? And how do you pay for them?

Paying for apps is easy, all you need is a google account which involves setting up a gmail account (if you don't already have one) then all you do is register a debit/credit card to it.

Think I like about Android is there is a setting that requires you to enter a PIN for every purchase which is very handy especially as my kids use my phone and things cannot be bought 'accidentally' unlike on Apple products.
