Default kwik fit

do i really need to say much more?

gf took her car for MOT. they decided to list every little problem the car and fail it. From light bulbs to the angle of which the valve is sticking out of the wheel, what a joke.

going to check over the car tomor, to see what REAL problems the car has and replace a few bulbs. The MOST annoying part is if i remove the car from the mot test centre to repair they charge for the second mot at half price? is that really fair.

just to list some of the issues:

- reg plate light not working (maybe a new light bulb??)
- left + right indicators wrong colour (okay maybe they are a light bit yellow but a new bulb and compared to about 10 cars we saw on the way home which was almost white!)
- head lamp aim too high one side
- head lamp to low other side
- brake failure (JUST PUT NEW REAR PADS IN AND BLEED BRAKE LINES!!!) maybe hand brake could be be lowered by adjusting ONE BOLT!!!

- fuel system insecure
- fuel leaking (the fuel filter is fine there no leaks but hey its wet out side so whhy not!!)
- tyre valve misaligned (what they mean is its not 100% 90 degrees so you need to pay)
- tyre cut on one side okay so maybe a new tyre fair enough??

MOT cost £45 and which i can not return with the car sorted and not have to pay a thing. why my GF didnt use the same place i use for my car and all bikes. never going to see that £45 that my gf works so hard for.

they needed to keep car in and call back tomor with a quote which would probably cost alot more than £45. any one else been this angry about kwik fit?

You are whinging yet you must have known full well what to expect from such a shower of c***s as those thieves.

Her car? Right well tell her to do as she's f***ing told next time then or pay the grand that they'll quote to tweak the brake shoe adjusters. In this case it is neither your problem nor ours!

I can understand your anoyance with them but the car failed, and they aren't able to make repairs to get it through during the test. If you can work through the fail list and get it retested for half price, go for it, but make sure she takes it to your place next time.

you really think they're going to charge the standard amount and waste an hour of the 'technicians' time to give the A-OK without trying to make money?

+ 1 on what YC said. Take it to a real garage.

Before I heard the rumours I took the Mrs's Astra there as didn't know any other good garages at the time (had a specialist car myself so was taking mine to a specialist). They invented some problems I can't full remember. I remember them saying something about one of the rear suspension struts or something had become competely detached although car handled identically before and after. It was ridiculous. Plus there were some other things like a seized front brake calipre, although car braked fine.

Anyway, smiled, took it on the chin and resolved never to take a car there again. I'm surprised there isn't some sort of trading standards investigation into them tbh.

If she doesn't listen then leave her to sort it.
This is not a problem with kwik fit you can't blame a dog for humping legs it's just what they do... this is a problem with your missus not doing as she's told. Have you considered drinking 12 cans of stella and telling her to get the f***ing tea made?

I reckon we should run a book on how much they'll quote for that lot.

£327.50 inc VAT

Lets be fair here, these are all MOT fail points even the misaligned tyre valve which might have been damaged MOT test stations get visits from VOSA examiners who use unscrupulous methods to catch them out.
Is it not better to know that you have a car that has passed the MOT Examination after these points have been rectified rather than be driving with misaligned lights blinding people or limiting your visibility. If brakes don't come up to standard and the vehicle fails on the meter it has defective brakes and fuel fiter wet means it leaks so it could be a possible fire risk.
I take trucks for MOT on a regular basis and the standards set for commercial vehicles is MUCH MUCH higher than those of a car or motorbike and I have had fails for silly things such as a hex headed bolt in a guard rail instead of a pan or coach bolt.

If you feel that the MOT Examiner and station has been unfair there is an appeal procedure
