Default Suzuki Dealer Orwells Ipswich

Been looking for a decent dealer (Not Drug Related) in Essex, so after reading the forum about decentdealers near to where I live, I decided to give Orwell’s in Ipswich a try. Itook the SV in yesterday for the cam chain rattles and a 30k service. Theworkshop supervisor had a listen to it and agreed that the noise was the camchain. He said he had come across it before but it was not a common fault as mybike had the later type tensioners fitted. I was given a couple of month oldGSR750 as a loan bike, and very nice it was indeed. The more upright ridingposition was good for the twisty bits but a pain at 80MPH on the dualcarriageway. Overall a good handling bike with plenty of poke. I collected theSV as arranged in the afternoon. Some of the valves needed adjusting and theytook both tensioners out cleaned them up. They felt they were a bit gummed upwith old oil and this was causing them not to work properly. They refitted andreset them. They changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs & brakefluid. Reset the throttle bodies and carried out the rest of the checksrequired at 30K. I collected the SV and a £290 bill. Overall the work seems tohave been done to a high standard and the cam chain is no longer rattling. Theworkshop supervisor who had listened to the bike earlier in the day took thepayment and was good a explaining the problems with the cam chains andtensioners. He was impressed with the condition of the SV given its age andmileage. He had noticed that it had the original chain & sprockets andcould not believe what condition they were in, although he suggested that theywould probably need changing at the next service. This would give potentially34k of service, and that’s with just good maintenance and no Scott Oiler howbad!!! (ps I am the original owner). And before any of you say it I do not ride it like an old fart.

After hearing from a couple of people that they had good experiences at Orwells, I decided to give them a go with my GSX650F. I booked it in a few weeks in advance as it had to be done on a saturday. Was told a price it should be over the phone and also that it should have been done at 11k not 12k....

Its a good 60miles to Orwells from me and getting there for 8.30 on saturday morning meant a nice early start. You can watch them in the workshop if you so wish but i sat with a cup of coffee and a magazine. Workshop bloke was polite and didn't mind me supplying my own oil but did say they didn't recommend fully synth. Clutch slip apparently but I have not had any in the last 1100 miles with it so he was happy to put it in. Did note that the rear tyre was squaring off but tread depth was fine. They allow 2hours per service but were done by 10 o'clock.

I came away feeling much happier with the job they had done compared to Alpha's in Southend and I would recommend them to anyone. They even cleaned and lubed the chain even though I have a scottoiler fitted, something Alpha have never done - though they may have adjusted it.

They also had a very nice SV1000 K5 in the right colours.......

Put it this way, they must be good to ride 250 miles, 6 months back, to get them to service and play with a zzr1400 engine with 40k on its clock!

No dealership nor mechanic in York's or Lancs gave us the confidence to do work needed.

We had engine out, valves shims, all gaskets replaced, wheel bearings, chain and sprockets, fluids replaced. They've serviced the bike from new, and have an exceptional rapport with the other half. Even though he's not been near in three years he got a courtesy bike for the day, a gsr750. He's always had pretty much any bike he's fancied when he was a regular.

Best lump spent on that bike in a while. Well worth the trip, and trust felt knowing they do a good job. Mark is very very helpful, even on the phone to a numpty like me!
