Default 2005 sv 650 s not starting

i tried to start my bike on sunday and it wouldnt start . Shed last been started about 3 weeks ago , when I switched her on the lights on the dash came on for a few seconds and as soon as I tried to start her all the electrics went dead.

Put my voltmeter on and had about 9 volts, so ordered a new battery and charged it . Have fitted the battery the voltmeter says 12.60 volts, when Ii try to start her the pump primes and the starter whirrs but theres no firing of the plugs. I have had the plugs out they have been in for about
t 2000 miles and the plugs spark.

What do you guys recommend I do next?

The bike has 24000 miles on it

try new plugs and fresh fuel....i had the same problem, the fuel goes off and fouls the plugs.

make sure the red switch isn't flicked on etc. if thats not the case as they say new plugs, fuel rinse etc. Also make sure your alternator isn't dying.

If any of the cut out switches; stop switch, clutch switch, sidestand switch etc were amiss it wouldn't turn over, and certainly wouldn't produce any sparks - so you can happily discount any of those.

Clean and gap the plugs, even if they're worn out all else being right they won't stop it running, just maybe not as nicely as it should.

What was the reason for replacing rather than charging the battery? If it's down on volts after three weeks it certainly isn't in the first flush of use - but that doesn't mean it's completely useless. If it started three weeks ago that strongly suggests it would run if it were charged - the problem, (if there is one), lies elsewhere.

Hi I replaced the battery because it is nearly 4 years old and the original didnt last that long.

I take your point about draining the fuel. I lifted the tank tried to disconnect the electrical connector to the fuel pump but couldnt get it to come apart, took the fuel pipe off but only a dribble of fuel came out . So how do you drain the tank? take it off and turn it upside down so the fusl empties through the filler?

If there`s only a little bit in the tank, just slosh a fresh gallon in....mine seems to run lean as soon as the fuel light comes on...but with your bike being stood for weeks on its side stand and very little fuel in the tank the pump will be running dry. Mine ran 100% better with new plugs too, they looked ok, just a bit sooty. Now I run it about once a week, run it for 20mins or so, bring it up to temperature and the fan comes in and off again...and it`s plugged into the optimate charger/conditioner...seems to work a treat for my sv over the winter.
Hopefully the weather will improve now and we can ride em.

Here is an update , bought new plugs and fitted them , went to start her and she backfired out the exhaust , carried on turniong her over but no go.

Went to drain the tank using my newly acquire syphon , it wouldnt fit down the tank. Went to my local bike shop to get them to collect her next saturday.

Today went to the bike and she started went for a bit of a ride and shes ok .

Could have been flooded, hence backfire and excess fuel could have evaporated since the first attempt. The only time my K6 was reluctant to start was when I flooded it (yes, it is possible with FI)

I thinks flooding could happened...if the plugs were poor or the battery is low on charge, there wouldn`t be spark strong enough to fire up your bike.
