Default "Temporary" puncture repair

Had a flat on the rear yesterday. Got the RAC out and they sealed it with some glue stuff. Pumped it up and I did another 100 miles at speeds not insignificantly higher than the 50mph I was recommended not to exceed.

I was told the repair was temporary and I need to get a new tyre asap.

Has anyone had one of these repairs? How long do they last? Tyre was pretty new so don't fancy replacing it.

Mot is due next month, will it pass?

I had the same last summer and left it in until last week when I replaced the tyre due to it being worn out. Never had a problem with the tyre loosing pressure and no issues with speed or the balance of the tyre.

Had a 'sticky cement' type of repair and it lasted the life of the tyre. (depending on the type of repair maybe)As long as it's been done right and you monitor it ,at least initially, it will most likely be fine - I wouldn't track it though!

Doubt any mot tester would notice, I don't know the actual viewpoint on it but I bet providing it's not on the edge you'll be all right. Take it somewhere that do free re-test if it's a big concern (but somewhere that doesn't sell overpriced tyres).

Get a permanent repair - it might be fine, it might not, but until the tyre is examined internally and repaired to the relevant standards -if appropriate - it's not a certainty either way.

A repair doesn't cost much, I think it would be unwise not to.

I had a pegaso strada the rear got a puncture and was only a few weeks old I used a temporary plug kit but managed to find a bike shop to repair it properly and the repair then lasted the life of the tyre for the sake of £25 I had confidence in the tyre on the motorways ect

Thanks for the replies, I was told by the RAC man that most places won't fit a permanent repair once the temporary fix has been used, didn't go into why but I just assumed it was so they can sell you a new tyre.

Had a temporary fix on my blade, a bike with nearly 50% more power than the vfr and that lasted the life of the tyre (albeit that was only 10 days and 2000 miles around Europe)

The fix on the blade was a different type though, it was a rubber mushroom type.

The rubber mushroom type of repair where the tyre is drilled and plugged is regarded as a permanent repair and I have never had a problem with this type of repair.

You cant often use the TUV approved Z rated permenant repair on tyres that have had a temporary plug fitted as this type of repair can damage the tyre. Same when gloop or similar products have been used as these can prevent the repair from adheering to the inner carcass.

I did 2.5k on a temp repair including a track day on my sprint, never once lost any pressure.

Think I'm just going to risk it and keep an eye on the pressure, I check it before every outing anyway.
