How big is it? From what I've read it's 17 litres but filling up from fuel light last night I could only put 10 litres in. Worked out I got 60mpg from the last tank load so not bad at all. Also how much would be left when the light is on?

Not sure about the sv but my cb500 has a 17 litre, the main tank is 15 and the reserve is 2 litres. Generally reserves/fuel lights coming on at 2/3 litre iirc

Well worth searching on here for the more common questions, this one's been done a few times recently.
The low fuel lights depend on the year, but when the initial warning kicks in you should have at least 3 litres left. So wait until the light comes on, fill up, and you'll know what you have left. Jambo Sent from my thingie

That's what I did. I even filled up while still on the bike so it was level and just over 10 litres went in.

Check again on the next tank but there may be something funny going on there.
Check the fuel light stages for your year (you don't say what model you have) as the order and number of alerts varies. Jambo Sent from my thingie

Bit of a strange one but if all else fails you can see how far you get roughly on a full tank then go by that value on your speedo trip to tell you when you need to fill up.

yeah that's how I've been doing it. Now I know it's roughly 140 miles until the light depending on how I ride. Think I've worked it out. It's a 17 litre tank including reserve. So say it's 10 litres to the light, 3-4 litres until it cuts out then reserve is about the same again. Didn't know they had a reserve tank. Is there a tap to switch it over?

Solved. After a search I've found it. On a K7 the light flashes at 4 litres and is solid at 1.5 litres. Good to know for the future.

Not sure on an SV but on my cb500 theres a turn on the tap. It was my understanding that bikes with a fuel light dont have this tap though, but i could be wrong. I would anticipate at least 13litres of usage before seeing a petrol light myself. After checking my gsxr manual its the same for that, 13 litres out of 17 then the light comes on.
