Default Exhaust heat shield broken!

OK, which idiot at Suzuki thought that it would be a good idea to put a heat shield on the exhaust under the engine, welding the brackets onto the exhaust pipe but making them out of the cheapest metal they could find?

My bike has developed a rattle, when I examined it I found that the heat shield mount had snapped off. The nut and bolt that hold it onto the pipe are so rotted that even with the wife's top quality Snap-On Allen key, the bolt head turned to dust. The whole piece is scrap and the plate vibrates, meaning that I need to get in there with a grinder to cut the damn thing off.

Will I damage anything once it is removed, I imagine that it is there for a reason and removing it could have an adverse effect somewhere? The wife says just chop it off and I am probably going to do this.

have you got an aftermarket can on? The stock cans are by far the biggest restriction to exhaust gasses, so the bike runs much hotter on stock can. If it's aftermarket the gasses flow much more freely so you should be ok I'd imagine?

Source: burned wrist from ktm adventure with stock cans.

I removed mine after exactly the sane thing. No adverse effects in the 6 months it was off.

Thank you folks, I shall be attacking the bike with a grinder later today. Let the sparks fly!
