Question Sale of write-off question!

Hey all!

As some of you may remember, I was knocked off my SK3 in 2004 and it was written off.
I bought the wreck back at the time and sold various parts from it.

I still have some bits and bobs left and now need some funds to get my ZX7R roadworthy (& running better!) again, as I haven't ridden it for a year (failed MoT and couldn't afford to fix it!) and am going more and more insane without it!!

The main question is:

The frame is seemingly in good condition other than the cross bar piece that runs across the frame just behind the headstock. This has broken at the weld on one side...

I was under the impression that this would render it useless, hence I kept hold of it for the last almost decade with the intention of making it into something!
I have come across several frames for sale on eBay with some pretty serious damage (like is one!) and figure mine Is in better nick than them!

It's still registered, I have the V5C and the original number plate. It is on SORN. The swingarm is also still attached.
Other than that, I can't remember, as it's sat in the garage at my Mum's (now rented out) house!

Wondered if you clever lot could shed any light on it's saleability for me, as I need to make a few hundred quid to sort the old Kwak out and this could seriously bolster what else I have to flog!

I believe you can sell it but should say what Cat of write off it is - likely a B? So cannot go back on the road if I remember - best to make that clear in advert but nothing to stop you selling it.

WOW that k8 is really broken!
Its ONLY HPI clear because the damage wasnt recorded. No way and insurance company would allow that frame back on the road.

Yours I'm assuming is either a Cat C or D and in which case it can return to the road with nothing more than an MOT been required.
If yours is cat b then its still able to be used on the track, but unable to return to the road.

For what its worth I'm about to sell a frame and swing arm from a Cat D bike, I'm not expecting more than £150 for it.

I'm not sure what category write off it was...
I was never actually told!
I was under the impression you could only buy back a wreck if it was Cat C or D?
Also, that if it was Cat A or B, I thought I would have to at least re apply for the log book...
I never had. To surrender the log book and I event still get Tax renewals come brought each year, hence it being on SORN!

I'm not expecting a great deal for it - was thinking a similar amount... Every little helps with the repair of my bike!

Whats the reg plate?
I've got some HPI credits still available so I'll run a check on it for you.

PM me if you dont wish people to read it.

Well, thanks very much to Owenski, I have had my previous lingering suspicions confirmed...

My bike was NOT written off!

Therefore, it's seemingly just a lightly damaged frame!

Now to see if I con go and get it, advertise it and sell it before the bits I have my eye on to fix my Kwak are sold!!!

There is also a strange little work around to get your cat b frame put on a Q plate with new frame numbers!

That K8 frame could well be used for iffy purposes, it has a legit ID, all you need is a K8 you didn't pay for, err, I mean, pay much for. Put the two together and you have a nice clean motorcycle with a spotless legit reg and no dodgy HPI records.

It's called ringing - and what other purpose would someone be selling a shafted frame on eBay for? Particularly when they want 650 notes for it.

Tim, be careful what happens to your frame - there's very few legit reasons for wanting a duffed one.

Cool Re: Sale of write-off question!

Hmm, that was my thought process, squiddly!

My frame was seemingly perfect until the engine was removed... Then the crack became apparent!
My thoughts of it being only broken at the weld were that it may be possible to adequately repair it (even if just for race/ track use) and therefore may be of some (legitimate) use to someone!
The fact that it is HPI clear and not declared a write-off, could I suppose, be a double-edged sword, in that it could signal a green light to a shady whatchamaflippit to use it for dodgy purposes!

I'm in the sorry state that as an exceedingly broke student nurse, with a 3 year old and a wife being shafted (read: employed) by the NHS, I have neither the time to fix, nor the money to pay someone else to fix my bike! Let alone space in the garage or the tools (and, I suppose experience) to do it!!

Thinking is required, methinks!!
