Default Air compressor help.

Hello, got my self an air compressor for doing little jobs, pumping tyres up , cleaning bike parts etc etc.
It was only cheap from a chap on gum tree.
The unit is brand new and and the book says its a 1/4" air outlet, I went to machine mart and picked up a hose with 1/4" nut on the end and a blow gun.

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/pr...-air-hose-50ft

This issue I have is the hose won't connect to the air outlet, it appears the be the right size but on the air outlet there is a small gap before the thread starts and the nut on the hose isn't deep enough.

Is there something else that should go in-between the hose connector and the air outlet ?

Any help will be appreciated.

Ant

is it a taper thread on outlet or what?

I'd stick a female QC fitting on the outlet and a QC nipple on end of hose. if it is a loose nut on end it is probably bspp and might not go onto a bspt

Not sure I will try to take a photo later when I get home. To me it just appears that there is a few mm before the thread starts and the nut on the hose doesn't make connection because of this gap as the nut on the hose isn't deep enough.

Maybe these will resolve my issue as you suggested.

Not sure I would be buying my air fittings from Halfords. However :-

You need a female for your compressor and male/female connections for the hose and a male for each of your tools.

I have my compressor piped to a regulator/evaporator/oiler that have different types of connector. I have multiple hoses fitted with these connectors to ensure that I do not pollute my painting lines with oil.

Halfords is just for reference Tim, I usually shop around but sometimes find my self popping in there as its right next door to my work, will probably pop back to machine mart.

There are as many couplers as there are manufacturers of compressors, you'll find they are massively different, machine mart do sell lots of different ones though, so should be able to get one to fit from there.
