After the electrical problem with my bike two weeks ago another prob has come along.
I was out and about town today and had a few places to be so used the sv. Was running fine but just as I was going home it started to mis-fire. It wont rev past 5 thou on the rev counter in any gear. Ilet the bike stand for a couple of hours then went back to it and took it for a quick spin but its still doing it. Bike has just had new spark plugs by the way 2000 SY model |

Plug leads are on right and coils connected.
so its either the coils gone wrong or something else. Bike runs ok below 5 thou, just wont go above. Will speak to mechanic on monday |

Took bike back to mechanic today. All the way there it was running ok till 5 thou but once again wont pull/rev over 5 thou in any gear.
I got there and he came out, started bike, revved it and it revved cleanly! He then took it for a quick spin and came back saying " it runs fine" at this point i am feeling a mixture relief that bike seems fine now and****ed off as the bike was running bad and is now making me look silly. I rode it home and it was fine and took it for another spin and still running fine. whatever it was its now gone. Will take bike to work on friday and see how it goes. |

I had a similar problem on my '00 SV650. Turned out to be the front HT lead had a broken wire. Nothing visible, and as it bounced around, sometimes it would make good contact, and sometimes it wouldn't, producing a weak and mis-timed spark. I hate intermittent problems!

I had the same problem on my GSF1200, turned out I had a loose plug which was sometimes touching and sometimes not. Also one of my HT leads was a bit loose.
Also you are not alone with the mechanic issue, I took mine and he laughed at me ^_^ Kieran |
