Default Tyre fitted the wrong way around.

So wheeled the bike out of the garage for a wash and shampoo this morning and glanced a the rear tyre. The strong sunlight highlighted the side wall letters including the directional arrow. Went to move away then looked back in horror

The arrow was pointing the wrong way! Surely not someone wouldn't put a tyre on back to front would they? Checked the other side which just confirmed my worries. Nipped down the road to the local tyre dealer who specialises with bikes.

Yep, rear tyre is on back to front, triffic

So the bike came with brand new tyres from a dealer though I doubt he fitted the tyres and I have been riding around for 6 months like this. She is booked in on Monday.

Default Re: Oops - Tyres

Being a modern radial it's most unlikely to have made any difference to anything.

Dealer thought that in heavy rain the tread pattern won't clear water away as effectively as the right way round. Hence suggesting it is changed around.

There's many thoughts on tread pattern, even some manufacturers say that, within reason of course, it's not critical. Note how many tyres have treads that have seen as much aesthetic design as functional. A couple of years ago there was a Continental that started life one way round and ended up the other.
When we had crossplies it mattered much more as the construction was intended to take load in a specific direction, for that reason many tyres had arrows pointing opposite ways for front or rear fitment as rears mainly take drive load and fronts mainly braking load.

I'm wasn't suggesting it shouldn't be changed, only that it likely made little difference to the performance of the tyre.

Thanks, hadn't thought about that and you're right it is a fail.

Result. Yesterday Tyre Stocks in Gosport said drop it in Sunday afternoon ready for Monday morning as we will be open trying to clear a back log of jobs. So popped in at 2.30pm this afternoon and they then said give us a call about 5pm, we may be able to do it today. Picked her up at 5.30 pm all sorted can't ask for better than that.
