Now, in the lovely month of June 2013, how does one go about getting his K9 Sport back to showroom condition? Does it cost a lot? What products are recommended? How does he clean the engine? In what order should those products be used? Is painting the engine done? How do we get it to sparkle and shine!?
As people give me suggestions, I'm going to try and find a the cheapest price online that I can and post back here! Lets go gentlemen... And ladies... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

You could try and ask for a local detailer. Have a look on detailing world.com.
If you want to do it and you dont have the products already it could get expensive. IMO you would need foam. tar remover. claybar. polish. waxes. a good jet wash..set of cloths. towels. brushes and applicators to say the least.

Never jet wash. Not necessary, could cause problems. In brief - Good shampoo, good brushes (use different ones for different applications and try not to mix the dirty brushes with the ones for the cleaner panels), brake cleaner, de-greaser (foam or fluid), polish/wax, lubricant (silicon based, copper based, ACF etc), thread lock. Oh, and a bucket and sponge with cold and warm water. But MOST importantly, Elbow Grease!

I use a long handled bog type brush and a 4" wall paper brush for normal cleaning to get into all the nooks and crannies. Also found a gift set of shampoo and polishes including tar remover, glass cleaner, plastic restorer etc in Halfords I think. They are all small bottles but then you don't need much each time for a bike. A can of spray on gunk for behind the front sproket area and shock area is useful, but use a drip tray because the stuff stinks for weeks afterwards if it drips on the garage floor. Two growing teenagers keep me in a supply of t shirts for rags. The rest as you probably already know is time and elbow grease.

Gosh, that does sound like a lot of work and things to buy!
I did read this a long time ago, but I just didn't remember to reply! I did it myself though, with a jet wash on the metal bits with the fairings off, with shampoo and elbow grease. Used a rust remover gel to get rid of rust on the silencer pipe. And then wiped it with poundland wipes and then GT85 to give it a shine. For now... ![]() Its nowhere near showroom condition, but its halfway there I reckon. I need wax and a de-greaser for it to work. But ££ is a bit problem for me atm, so I'll have to wait. |
