for a company named M & E holdings limited.
Google would suggest it is based in Blackburn. I think it is possibly a recruitment agency as the taxman is convinced my son works for them and wants 20% of everything he earns from his "Second" job until he can provide them with a P45 from someone he has no knowledge of working for. We thought we had it cracked when he talked to the tax last week and convinced them on minimum rate he would like to be eligible for the 40% they were asking for with a DO code. But they still seem convinced his job is a second job and now given him a BR code and M&E holdings whoever they are? Are his primary employer I cannot find a phone number or email address. I can find a director and send a message through LinkedIn. But I don't want to expose myself my own profile to this organisation. Anyone any good with the search engines or matching people to companies etc?

If they did think this, then I'd be convinced their address would be on his tax assessment somewhere?

I have the phone number for the business next door!
It has all the looks as though M & E Holdings use a virtual office. This makes contact very difficult as the company does not list a telephone number. I would have thought the best bet is to call the person who is the contact for the Enterprise Centre in which the company address relates. Lorraine Bradley 01254 505003. They might be able to cast some light on the matter for you Last edited by Red ones; 20-01-14 at 07:53 PM. |

Try phoning the founding director (Michael Lewtas) on his mobile (07789214417) or email him at mlewtas@keynw.co.uk.
It appears that he (Michael) is the MD at Key Appointments. The address (Suite 14, Blackburn Enterprise Centre, Blackburn, BB1 3HQ) matches the registered address of the company you are looking for (where he is listed as the founding director). Chances are he setup the 'M & E Holdings Limited' company to reduce risk and for tax purposes etc. |

The issue with that particular payroll contact is they likely won't have dealings in the parent/holding company and only deal with the daily runnings of Key Recruitment, and it is not they that the tax man is saying Tim's son works for. By all means it's worth a try, but the problem is with 'M & E Holdings Limited' so first point of call would be to go direct to whomever is behind that.

. . or get the Revenue man to do the leg work?
As long as that didn't increase the depth for son-of-Tim

Hi tim,
I've heard of this before. In the case i'm thinking of, a friend of mine did, several years ago, just one evening's bar work for a pub, on the books, and HMRC was convinced that she had two jobs because the pub didn't remove her from their records. It proved to be a bit of scam as the pub were claiming tax benefits (or something like that) as a result of having the extra employee. It only came to light at the end of last year when she queried her tax code. Has your son ever done a bit of short-term (on the books) work for someone he's forgotten about/dismissed from his mind? Might be a good place to start. Companies House is a good place to start (their web check is free) for Limited companies. More details come at a charge. |

Yes, I found key appointments last night. when I told my son of them this morning, It turned out he did two days minimum rate work for them back in October and forgot.
It was confusing as all the correspondence from HMRC kept stating M&E holdings which he had no knowledge of. Only by tracing the director did we discover the other interests. Sounds well dodgy.
