Right guys,
Got everything through the post for my rebuild apart from some Red Rubber grease, called all the local bike garages and no one had any in!!! Eventually called Milfields Auto in Peterborough and they said that they had some "Red 'n' Tacky #2" for calipers. Its a "lithium and polymers blend", anti seize, high temp, surface protection that's especially good for sliding surfaces. I'm planning to put a thin layer over the pistons and new seals, anyone else think its a bad idea? Or will it do the job just fine? ![]() ![]() |

No. No. No
Definitely not suitable for hydraulics. Keep well away from your pistons Red rubber grease is base on vegatable oil

I've got a massive pot of it if you can be bothered to come and get a bit, dunno if it helps. PM me if you want. I've only started using it in recent years though, I would just do the rebuild now and grease the pistons when you get the grease, it's no big deal.

Try:
EU Car PARTS Ryhall Road Industrial Estate Stamford 01780 762598 Or: Hereward Car Components Brownlow St Stamford 01780 481234 Red & Tacky would work for a few miles but WOULD rot rubber seals

So a thin layer of it over the pistons and new seals? or just the pistons? |

Just smear a bit on the pistons, they are a tight fit in the seals so if you put much on it'll just scrape off as you fit them into the calipers. Wet the main piston seals with a bit of brake fluid when you fit them to the caliper.

I just smear RRG on the seals and the pistons and wipe off any excess once I've slid them in and out a few times. |
