So ive just bought a car, and on the previous two mots it has an advisory for nail in rear nearside tyre. So i jacked it up and found said nail, still there. A few inches away theres also a screw stuck into the tyre. After checking that i went round and checked the rest and found a small screw in a front tyre too.
Question is, would you take it to the tyre place to get it removed when seemingly it has been there for quite a while, and realistically the rears only have about 3mm left anyway and feel a bit 'stiff' like the rubber is slightly old. Im thinking i will leave them in for now and keep checking to see if the pressure drops more than the rest...thoughts? I dont mind spending the money, but by the look of it theyve folund themselves a cosy home and dont seem to be doing much. |

The sensible thing to do is change them. Whether you can live with leaving them as they are comes down to personal choice.

Personally, I would change them ASAP!
They may have been there for ages, but I wouldn't trust a tyre with a screw (or nail, or both!) with the life of myself and my family. Imagine going round a corner at 60 mph, or having to emergency brake, the weight/pressure on the tyre; it could easily cause a fast deflation, or even a blow out. Either could cause a crash. Not worth the risk IMO |

Yeah, probably right. Im fairly confident the two screws dont actually go too deep, so hopefully its just the one nail to be removed and plugged...we shall see. Ill post again with the outcome!

you sound unlucky. For a few bob (or even free) you can get puncture repair guarantee when you replace your tyres

Get the nails/screws out. Use plug repair kits. If there's not much tread left then thats your safest option before dismounting the tyre to repair (pointless in my opinion, due to the minimal tread left).
This should keep you safe(ish) for the interim. Alternatively bite the bullet and change the tyre(s) Only 2 opions IMHO |
