Default SV won't start - wiring fault? Chelmsford

Hhhhhheeelllppppppppppp.

SV runs fine however it's stopped starting (!) on the button.

I could really do with some help diagnosing the problem, someone who can check it over with a multimeter and tell me what to do.

Been off the road for a few months now and mechanics want to charge me for a full loom check and overhaul running into hundreds of pounds. I'm sure there is a problem which once diagnosed I can fix.

I'm ok with mechanics but have never diagnosed wiring issues, other than finding breaks, before so would really value someone's kind advice and help.

I'm ddddeeesssspeeerraatteeeeee (to fix it and go for a ride).

Cheers

You're saying it will start if you bump it off, but the starter isn't working?

Thanks for replies ...

Bike - old curvy SV650 naked

Bike will bump easily (or jump the starter from my car battery). But it won't start from the button. I've out a new starter relay in but still no luck. I need some help trying to work out where and we're not I'm getting voltage. Is it at the starter relay end, or the handle bar starter button end etc.

Bump - so the starter motor is fine, I can turn it off my car battery. Just can't get any life from pressing the starter button.

Bad connection on the starter button or on the wiring? I'd start there first

Thanks I'll take a look. Trouble is I'm not that experienced with diagnosing electrical problems so whilst I understand that I probably need to poke around near the starter button and the connectors into the starter relay I'm not too sure how to diagnose the problem or use my multimeter (where to place the prongs etc). Embarassing but trueeeee. I was hoping maybe so one local might know and be able to spare a little time, laugh behind my back and point me in the right direction.

Check the kill switch connections too, just in case something has gone there and it's overriding the starter button.
Next, maybe try the connection at the clutch lever?
If they are OK....you say the bike was standing for a while. Could it be the side-stand switch that's causing it?
