Default A little electronics/wireless project (Servants Bell Box)

I'm just planning what I am going to do with this project just now, so I would appreciate any suggestions or advice

I have a servants bell box, similar to the one below. The wiring for the actual buttons is unusable, but my parents would like the front and rear door indicators to work. So I am looking at using some sort of wireless system. It's an old house though, with thick walls so range might be an issue. It has standard wireless doorbells just now though, which usually work

The stars are moved by solenoids which draw about 1.7A each. So far I have found this, which seems to be ideal, but it is a bit expensive : http://www.carymart.com/2-channel-30...4v-p-1610.html

Smaller, waterproof push buttons (without the telescopic antenna) are available for it, but don't have a very good range. A possibility would be to install a wired button then wire it to the telescopic antenna remote, which could be installed indoors somewhere discreet. Being indoors would further help the range.

I should mention that I would like to fit all the electronics inside the bell box, so size is an issue. A transformer like this will just about fit inside the box : http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/12v-5000ma...r-supply-n95ju

I haven't started looking for the actual bell sounder yet. But it would be good to have different tones for each door. I'd also like to fit these inside the box if possible. The other star indicators won't be used, but I would like to keep the solenoids in place rather than ripping it all apart for extra space.

So yeah, that's about it. It's a good little project for myself more than anything. Basically what I need is a compact, cheap, 2 channel receiver which can handle the current of the solenoids and whatever bells I use. Or if a lower current receiver was used, relays could drive the solenoid and bell
