Default Carb Rubber leak symptoms

Curvy 2000 s

This is a sanity check essentially.

Having had the bike in for numerous things including fixing a vacuum leak - erratic idle - revs rose after spraying carb cleaner near inlet rubbers.

It's come back with the same problem. Now I truly do think the garage I used was utter sh1te. They handed it back to me with a dead front lug and a flat battery yet insisted they had tested it . . ..uh huh

So I've bought the rubbers and I'm doing it myself. Before I get stuck in I just want to check that there are no other problems that could manifest the same way.

I'm aware of the choke plunger issue but with the revs climbing after a squirt of the cleaner I'd say it was still dead cert that the carbs are leaky. Any other culprits other than the rubber being perished?

The mounting bolts can be REALLY hard to shift so you may have to work up a bit more room to work. Also the O rings on these things don't always seal well so a little gasket compound on them helps.

Have you checked the diaphragms for holes?

Nothing as simple as a split vacuum cap or loose carb clamp?

They charged me for o rings so they better have new ones.

Will chekc the diaphrams - my problem isn't lack of tools and willingness - it's lack of time and this is the girlfriend's bike so wanted it done fast -

The old if you want a job done properly . . .. ..

Doesn't sound like diaphragms to me, that gives a really slow rev

Don't bother just use a bit of fuel pipe with a bolt in the end

I'd use a bit of sticky stuff even with new O rings. As Chris says, the caps aren't rocket science, even a bit of PVC tape would serve to block one off for a while if you had to. There are various tubes dangling off the airbox too. Have you balanced the carbs?

If it's picking up speed when squirted then there is obviously a leak.

I was just thinking the same, mine fell apart when I fitted Bib's vacuum pipe hoses.
