14 minute video about a Triumph TR6 (single carb Bonneville) handed down from father to son and a road trip to Laguna Seca.

In the early 80s, a mate got a '68 TR6, I helped him rebuild the top end (you need four hands to line up the pushrod tubes when you're dropping the head back on). A very nice bike to ride, and actually not really any slower in real terms than the Bonneville.
How fast a 60s / 70s BSA, Triumph or Norton went was more to do with whether you got a 'good one' instead of one made on a Friday afternoon / Monday morning, because the tooling and machinery the engines were manufactured on were so old and worn, they couldn't maintain accuracy to keep new components at a decent tolerance. |

I follow the threads on britbike.com and refitting the Triumph push rod tubes does seem to be a faff. Since the tubes are on the outside of the engine, so to speak, they have O rings top and bottom. The head gasket thickness will determine how much these O rings are crushed when the head is torqued so the O rings come in different thicknesses (and materials). Too much or too little crush will result in oil leaks.
