Posted on Ecosse board too, forgive me, I thought I'd ask here too.
I was out on the bike last night and for once I didn't wear ear plugs. I realised my bike sounds pretty poorly just now. There's loads more popping than usual and it sounds a bit wheezy. When I got back home I gave her a few blips and each time there is a roar followed by a sound like a gust of air. I can only describe the sound as a 'doof-doof' kind of noise . I checked the pipes and there are no major leaks. Also when I start the bike from cold it will sit at 2.5 to 3k rev's for a good 8 to 10 seconds then drops to 1.4k. I assumed this was cause it's colder out but could this be a sign of fueling problems? So question - I've had my scorpion can and snorkle out for a wee while now, is it posible the fueling/jetting/mapping has deteriorated? I'd like a dyno run and a remap if that would help, where could I get one and how much would it cost? Seem to remember a sign in Cupar about Yoshi box or something, is there anyway nearer? Thanks chaps. |

I don't know about FI bikes, really, so i can't say much about the bump in revs on starting... The noise on revving definately sound like an air leak, mine does it all the time (I like it though), maybe at the ends of the link pipe? I know you said you'd checked, but it doesn't take much at all- mine seems totally tight but gives an excellent hissed intake of breath when revved quickly.
Yosh box is supposed to be a pretty crude way of doing it, but then PCs are expensive... Find out for sure, a dyno run with a sniff check should cost randomly between £10 and £30 (YPE Power in Edinburgh do mine for £20 a pop, more expensive than Alvins but they don'thave a huge waiting list and you get a good chat from the mechanics... One of their regulars rides a monster modded TL and he's fascinated by its little brother ![]()

Definatley sounds like an exhaust leak... they can be hard to detect...
When cold the bike will idle at 2000-3000 rpm then drop back to 1400... That's the auto fast idle system that is on FI sv's. |

Thanks Andy, I might go get a dyno done, just for a laugh, if it's only £20. What's the address for the place you go to, I know edinboro (joke!) pretty well.
What kind of power should I be getting from a K3? 75hp or something? As for the exhaust leak, I took a better look at my exhaust and decided to see how tight it really was, there was a noticable leak behind one of the hose clips. I unbolted the whole thing and gave a moderate pull and off it came! ![]() Thanks again. |

YPE Power in Bonnyrigg, just outside of Edinburgh proper. Though there's got to be places closer to home for you...
Think a K3's a shade over 70bhp at the rear wheel... Though Suzuki probably quote more ![]() ![]()
