I dropped the SV last night. Nothing serious, but some wenkar in a car decided to u-turn right in front of me. I did emergency stop, but lost balance and had to drop the bike. The only damage is that the end of the brake lever snapped off and the front indicator is smashed. ******* who u-turned looked at me then drove off. Wish I'd got his number and reported him for not stopping at scene of accident.
Anyway, I was thinking of replacing the ugly, and now bust, front indicator with something a bit smaller and neater. Any recommendations? Also, how easy is it to obtain and fit a new brake lever? 4000 mile service is coming up soon and I was going to get them to fit one then, but would like to know if DIY is easier/cheaper. |

Sorry you had the off, it's a relief to know you're not hurt. It seems that the number of drivers that blatantly drive away from an accident has reached epidemic proportions and is a sad indictment of the moral standards that society has dropped to. So glad to know that I'm part of a bunch that is better than that.

There are loads of nice looking winkers about. I had little arrow type ones fitted to mine.
![]() Brake levers are very easy to change. Think all you need is a 10mm spanner and socket to remove the bolt. Then the old lever sholud just pull out. If you're replacing the lever with a non-genuine lever, i'd advice cutting about halfway thro the lever, an inch from the end, to replicate the weak point on the original lever. I did this to both levers (clutch) and it saves the rest of the lever and mounting point in the event of a small spill (alot of racers do this). Rich Oh, sorry to hear about the drop! I had someone do the same to me about 3 years ago. Luckily like you there was very little damage to the bike. My knee on the other hand..... should have had leathers on!! |

I really like the motrax mini ovals, they fit the look of the curvy SV nicely, and they're very bright- brighter than the HG mini ovals that look exactly the same...
As for the brake lever, depends which one it is. If it's the front, take out scrwe, take off lever, put on lever, put screw in, you could probably do it in under a minute if you had to. Rear brake, still easy- take off the whole thing where it bolts to the frame, look for the allen bolt on the other side, undo it, the whole lever arrangement will come apart. Replace lever. Put back together. Don't undo any of the brake hoses! You don't need to anyway. Only a problem if the allen bolt is stuck. Which it might be, my gear lever was frozen solid and needed a breaker bar, a vice, an impact driver and a blowtorch to free...

Resistors cost basically nothing though, what's the spec again for Maplin, 10W 8.4 ohm wire wound? Even with postage from RS mine cost under £3...
