Hey,
I was just wondering, what makes a bike a "street fighter"? Mitch |

Well, the streetfighter thing really has its roots in dispatchers, doesn't it. They'd buy a fast-as-hell sports bike and then bin it repeatedly, give up on replacing the body panels and then, since they're doing most of their riding in town, fit flat bars. And that's pretty much that.
Mad Max II might well have had something to do with it ![]() But for me, heavily customised bikes that are built intentionally to look different are customs, not streetfighters. And Brutales or Speed Triples are naked bikes, not streetfighters. But that Blade that's often parked outside of Starbucks in the centre of Edinburgh with no plastics, the bits welded onto it at random, the twin round lamps rivetted onto the front, and the cargo nets across everything... It's a streetfighter ![]()

So, what's the difference between and "Street-fighter" and a "Rat Bike"?

Streetfighters tended to be in excellent mechanical condition, since they were hard worked bikes. Rat bikes are just crashed bikes that nobody can be arsed to fix or maintain at all.
At least, that's where I see the line.
