Default Havn't Changed Oil Filter in 10,000 Miles

just never got around to doing it and now at 10,000 miles I'm starting to service it properly. Still running fine and I give it regular oil changes. Was wondering what damage I've probably done by not paying attention to the oil filter.

Just changed the air filter at 9,000 miles too

Potentially; higher rate of ware on the engine / higher oil temperature / quicker breakdown of new oil / less protection of the engine, to start with.

Actually; it’s hard to say without stripping the engine, but if it runs fine and doesn’t drink oil, you may have got away with it to a greater extent, although not something I’d like to try.

Cheers Mark.

Man you should write a book! It'll be filled with more dodgy anecdotes since that bloke made brake pads from teak

Running surprisingly fantastic, especially given my make-shift airfilter I devised while waiting for the BMC to arrive. Now that's a work-of-art!

Engine's running fine and not drinking oil so I figure the oil filter isn't quite blocked yet. Might do for another 10k's , nope I'd better change next saturday.

How I love the SV for it just keeps on going with no maintenance . 7000 miles for a new tyre and oil changes. Very cool.

This isn't the deciding factor, using oil would only tell you that the rings/bores were worn out, it won't tell you anything about the condition of the lubrication system in general, and it certainly won't tell you if the filter is blocked.
That said if you were to do regular oil changes it probably won't do much harm at all, as the oil filter does only that, filter out anything undesirable in the oil, as long as it's had clean oil often enough there shouldn't have been any great amount of oil contamination.
Eventually though the oil filter will clog as the pores in the element get filled with bits of crap - carbon particles as the by-product of incomplete combustion, tiny bits of swarf from engine wear - although the oil pump's gauze strainer should stop anything sizable from getting as far as the filter in the first place.
It could be worse though, as the filter incorporates a bypass valve which will allow oil flow to continue if the filter does get clogged, unfiltered oil would be better than none.

The SV filter is the same one loads of other Suzukis use. Just tell Halfords bod to order one for you. Or get tasty K&N oil filter from demontweeks, looks the same but has a LABEL

Halfords carry theChampion one, or at least my local one does. There's a guy on Ebay that often sells the real thing too.
