Default ART Exhausts

Ive had an ART carbon Oval end can since my first service on my K2. The sound is great and the quality of the cans are superb for such an inexpensive part.

Highly recommended.

I have just bought an Art oval can and have yet to fit it on my '01 SV650. Would I be better off getting the can fitted at a dealer or is it quite easy to cut the pipe? Any hints or tips in doing this would be great!

Also, unfortunately my end can has been branded 'Not for road use'. I'm assuming that this is going to cause me issues when the MOT is due, do you know if there is a kit that enables you to fit the original back on once it has been cut off?

Girthster . . You just need a sleeve to connect the 2, but someone is selling an original can on eBay and its going for nothing . . may be worth saving yourself the effort?

On a thread here somewhere, not quite sure where, guys were talking about using a baked bean can as a sleeve to connect the original front bit to the original back bit!

Worst case, pop round kwikFit and ask them for a piece of piping of the correct size!
They'll probably give it to you for nothing out the scrap heap, unless you ask them to fit it!

When you do sort it out, please post your solution on the forum, as several people have the same problem come MOT time!

I alreayd have a art oval which I needed to cut the original pipes to fit on. I am thinking about getting a stainless twin outlet, will I be able to fit it on directly or is there more cutting to do???

Thanks

you have to cut your original pipe just a little before the weld on the older K1/K2 bikes. On the below pic you can just about make out the cut just below the footpegs before teh chrome of the end can starts.

If your buying the can from art then you can also get a link pipe which allows you to reconnect your old pipe with no hassle, you can also get a high level link pipe which brings the can up higher.

For cutting your old pipe most use an angle grinder altho some have tried with a hacksaw.

Anyway make sure you put a block of wood of something behind the old pipe where your cutting so you dont end up cutting into the swingarm.

The link pipe I was supplied with my Art can is wider at one end than the other. Would I be right in assuming that the widest end goes over the original pipe that has been cut and then the end can joins on the other end of the link pipe with the jubilee clip?

I have to say I'm a little nervous about the thought of taking a hacksaw to my SV!!

on mine the link pipe is for reconnecting back your old exhaust for MOT.

The new exhaust should already be able to slip over your old pipe where it was cut and then use the clips to clamp it down.

I wouldnt want to try it with a hacksaw thats some long cutting

Try an angle grinder or failing that have the pipe fitted by a mechanic.

I've just fitted an ART can I got off Ebay( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...e=STRK:MEWA:IT ) I didn't have any instructions so had to guesstimate where to cut the exhaust. It cut no problem with a hacksaw. Sounds well nice though like most people I'm not sure what to do when it comes to MOT time. There is a place on Ebay where you can get BS marked bands to replace the "Not for road use" one, though I'm not sure if this will fool the MOT tester.

I somehow managed to post the above twice but there seems to be no way to delete a post so I'm changing the second one to this in an attempt to look less stupid.
