Default Buying an SV650S

Hey guys, I am considering buying an SV650S, but have never ridden one and wanted to ask some owners how the bike performed. I had a Yamaha R1 until a couple of weeks ago, and I know that nothing that has 650cc's is going to have power like that bike, but I don't want anything that's a dog either. I have heard great things about these bikes, which is why I am interested in them, so I just wanted to ask you guys how they performed and if you think I would enjoy riding one.

Something to get you started.

My R1 was stolen, and I am looking at the SV because I have a shot at a really cheap one.

Welcome to the site my friend. The street handling is very good on the SV, light, flickable and nimble. If your looking for neck snapping acceleration from the SV650. Well like 650newb already mentioned you might consider the SV1000 instead.
Why don't you take it for a test ride before you buy it? Cheers, Richard

I reckon the SV could be a better choice than most other lower-powered options, since the power characteristics and general character are also pretty different from the R1- if you were to go down to a smaller engined race rep which was otherwise similiar to the R1 the power drop would probably be more of an issue.

I love the SV, but I've never ridden an R1 so I'm not going to try and compare them... All I'd say is the SV's still got more than enough power to get you thrown in the jail for speeding

To be honest if the deal's that good then buy it, try it and if you don't like it sell it on for a profit.

I know that it will not compare in straight line acceration to the R1, and I do not expect it to in any way. I have ridden bikes that are painfully slow, and I do not want it even at the great price I may be able to get it for if it makes me mad evertime I twist the throttle, but it sounds like it has good power, especially for around town, which is 70-80% of my riding during the winter, so I appreciate all the input from you guys. I am leaning towards buying the bike, and if I do, I'm sure I will be on this site frequently.
