Going straight through traffic lights on Christmas Eve, a Civic driver coming the other way thought it would be fun to cut across my path. Not a scratch on me or my kit, but the SV wasn't so lucky.
Bent forks, mudguard and front disc, scratched left side end can, along with the usual bar-end / clutch lever cosmetics. At least he admitted liability and I got one witness (loads of pedestrians asked if I was OK but strangely none saw what happened !!!). My question is - how much does a genuine Suzuki end-can cost ? I'm thinking that, for the price of a genuine part, I might be able to get a pair of after-market cans (even if I've got to cough up a little extra myself). As it's only 3 months old, it's reasonable to want it returned to it's original condition - just a bit rortier ....... |

If the other party has admitted liability, get the bike repaired with a brand new standard Suzuki exhaust...........and then hit him with a personal injury claim and use the money from that to get a decent full race system! The best of both worlds, full on race system and when you part-ex it, the original Suzuki system to put back on!
Most dealers will want the original system either in place or with it when you come for a part-ex price. |

Have you had a quote on the repair yet? With labour you're looking at about £700 to have it replaced, but with all the other bits this could shoot up quite a bit, I now as I'm in a similar situation. As the SV just doesn't cost that much you could be looking at a write off here as well. If the other party has admitted liability and has passed you their insurance company details then the next bit is irrelevent and don't bother reading it, just get them to pay for everything.
If they are refusing to co-operate after a rethink then the first thing is do you have fully comprehensive insurance or did you go for third party instead? The reason I ask is that if you have TP then in most cases your insurance company will not care and will pass you on to some kind of uninsured loss recovery company, if you have legal cover, who in my case are useless too. The first thing you want to do is get hold of a decent solicitor, like http://www.whitedalton.co.uk/home.htm, and then let them deal with it instead. If you have fully comprehensive insurance then don't worry about anything, just give them a ring and let them do all the work. As for your original question, my dealer said they could stick on a nice race system instead for the money as well, but Mariner is right about when you go to part-ex it and that's something you need to think about too. |

If you'd bought a high performance exhaust system then you'll get more money selling if you sell the performance exhaust seperately and sell the bike as standard. As the insurance will be paying for a performance exhaust, the only thing it will result in is a higher sale price for your bike. Get a non standard system. |

Sorry to hear about your misfortune glad your ok though. As they say every cloud has a silver lining & you now have the opportunity to mod the bike. Go for a decent aftermarket pipe the standard is far too quite (no one ever hears them dangerously really). There's always standards going for a song on Ebay & breakers if you need one to sell the or MOT the bike. If you worried about resale don't because the SV looses big style anyway. Your best bet is aftermarket with the option of road legal, either with removable baffle of interchangable end can.
