I was chatting to a mechanic at the bike shop at the weekend and he was suggesting a performance exhaust to get the real VTwin sound from the bike.
However, the exhaust was 700euros plus fitting (so about a grand in total - that's about 700 quid. My question is - if I come to the UK am I likely to save the 150gbp (Ferry plus petrol) needed to pay for the trip? 700 seems like a hell of a lot of money... Also anyone know where abouts in Leicester I am likely to get an exhaust at a decent price? Secondly I want a Union Jack and a Dutch flag to go on the bike below the rear seat (Uk one side, Dutch the other). Anyone know where I can get anything like this from? Chat later Stu PS Spent an hour with 1000 grit polishing paper + rubbing compound, then rubbing compound, then t-cut. Man does the he downpipe shine! For 1/2 hour at least when I ride it tomorrow... |

Stu, surely your best bet would be to buy one over the internet. Perhaps check out ebay.
Im sure you would get a decent system cheaper that way. Perhaps also you can check out the stickers you want at the same time. As for the best exhaust, check out the relevant thread in this Forum. |

yup. order one from the net.
keep your money and look out for deals from shops. busters were doing art cans for 75 quid. there are often a few on sale at a discounted price - just gotta look. the stickers - go to a vynil cutters site and ask. they can make you up one pretty cheap. |

Thanks guys.
Only problem is I'm not that handy with the bike (cars a different matter) but somehow I've just always been worried about workin gon the bike... And labour over hear is bloody high. I was also going to mix it with a trip to see friends, family, and try to get to on of the SV meets (when I eventually manage to get over...) I suppose then on eof the best bets is order from the net to UK address and get it fitted whilst I'm over there. Time to start searching... Stu |

Labour's expensive over here too!
I'm a complete novice when it comes to bike mechanics but even I managed to change the can without screwing it up. There's a ful guide on here somewhere. ![]() |

The front look seasy. All the pipework at the back looks very scarey though...
I've had an offer that looks interesting. Full M4 system, 499 fitted. Going to see what I can find about the M4 system now and have a thunk... Stu |

since i got my bike 6 months ago. i know absolutely nothign
i didnt even know that an engine needed air. 6 months later, ive changed my exhaust system, chain and sprockets, brake pads, air filter, headlight bulbs, oil and filter, checked sparks, serviced the battery. changed tyres, wheels, adjusted my fuel/air mixture, drum brakes, and now im about to overhaul my brake calipars. (probably a few other things im forgetting) i know its not complicated stuff , but the exhaust is the easiest one by far . . . you can do it - believe in yourself - and think about what you can spend the money you saved by doing it yourself on ![]() |

OK From the sounds of it I'm just going to have to have a go at this...
I've done: Exhaust: Standard to twin racing pipes Exhaust Manifold: Standard to 4 branch tubular S/S Changed the diff Changed the gearbox Removed the engine Changed suspension Rebuilt carbs Changed exhaust valvles But all on cars - and I'd been warned that bikes are far more complex than cars. I take it you lot dissagree with this? I'll ebay it to a friends address in the UK and take a trip to change it one weekend... Thanks all Stu |

If you can do that lot on a car then you can probably fit a new bike exhaust whilst wearing boxing gloves!
The only slightly difficult bit is cutting off the old one and even then that's only if your hacksaw is blunt! Much more satisfying too and you get to start the bike up with no exhaust fitted, which sounds completely mental. ![]() Look for FAQs on the main site for how to do it. |
