Hi Guys,
I am doing my test next week and am looking for a SV650S to get me started. Any tips on what to look out for when buying and where to get one. Don't have huge amounts of cash (£2000-£2250) as training, kit etc eating into budget! Thanks ![]() ![]() |

greetings buddy....if you go to the section titles biking issues or tuning and tweaking there is always some sort of debate on reviews of all models of the 650....good luck with your test

If it's clean and looked after you'll know about it. A service history would be nice to get if you can, If your going for the old shape, which by your budget seems to be the aim, Try and get an SK2 one, round about 51/52 reg numbers. These came with front top pre-load adjusters, saves you spending out £50 for a set to go on a sk1 or older bike. Would recomend that you save back about £70 for a set of Ohlins front springs, which is the first must!!!! upgrade.
Next up check for any panel damage or damage to the pegs etc, this will be due to a dropped bike. If panel colours don't match walk away as again this will point towards a dropped bike. If the bike comes with a End can, make sure you can get hold of a standard pipe for the MOT, cause it will fail without a road legal can. Check the wear on the rear sprocket if you can. Another good test is to, if the guy selling it has a rear stand get it jacked up and let the bike run in first gear. If the bike shudders and clonks from the rear, then you might have a kink in the chain. New chain £60-£70 o ring type. Also remember if you get an S version, try and get one with lowers, hugger, rear seat hump, if you can. Cause if you don't you will want to get them later on. There is loads more i can say but time is short, good luck with the test and the search. sexysi |

Hi,
Managed to log on this time. Thanks for the advice from everyone. I'm from South Ockendon. I did look at vineys bike but got to be honest the 37,000 miles does worry me slightly and i'm not sure about the wheels but it is a nice bike. Will definitely give it more thought. ![]() |

If you don't like his wheels, you could always have my standard colour wheels and I'll have the Orange ones
