OK, quick re-cap:
I bought a 2002 SV650S in August 2004 Two months ago something happened and it stopped working Now I have come to find that the plain bearings inside one of the connecting rod setups has siezed and in doing so has scuffed the crankshaft. My mechanic now hands me an estimate for a little less than $2,000 (about £973) He wants to recondition the crankshaft, replace all kinds of things, and calls for about 11 hours worth of work. I paid $4,400 (£2,350) for the bike in the first place! Am I getting ripped off? Someone who knows tell me what to do! Is this worth fixing at this price?! |

Not sure about what it would cost to repair that engine but you can put a whole new one in for alot less than that.

Suzuki don't do oversize shells for the bigend on the SV and sell the crank and rods together.
Your best bet is to get hold of another engine and just swap it out. in the UK you can pick a good one up for about £350 or so which is the price of the parts and gaskets alone, without fitting. Cheers Mark.

Yep - Get another engine - you can always strip your old engine and sell most of the parts to recover some of the cost.
