Default Fatnacker suspension setup

as you can probably tell by my avatar, i am a fat knacker wheighing in at a dangerous 20st, but shrinking slowly, although i am 6ft, so its not like im ronnie corbet (no offence ronnie you know i loves ya)

i have a K4650s stock apart from bodywork.

so what i want to know is if i want to do something about the suspension what should i do?

ive upped the preload to 2 from max front and rear which has helped a lot

is fitting a new rear shock a worthwhile investment?, and what about the springs/oil at the front

no sarky crap about my weight please, i know it would be easier if i was 12 stone , but the lure of satans evil kebab is too strong..

I think at 20 stone the first thing you should do it get the forks revalved and re-sprung and rear shock resprung, if you don't want to shell out on a new shock. You could just have stiffer springs all round but the revalve will help with braking acceleration and smoothness of the ride. If you can afford it go for a new rear shock but make sure the supplier knows your weight so they can put the appropriate grade spring on it. Increasing pre-load only helps take the initial springyness out of the spring, once the spring is past the compression of the setting, pre-load doesn't have any affect, until on the way up again. Re-valve should help this.

when you say get the rear shock re- sprung, do you just mean take of the stock re shock and get a heavier spring put on to replace the factory one, ? where can i get this done?

Yes, you can get stiffer springs made up. I think Hagon in Essex rebuild shocks and you can get different spring rates. But as Cpt Nemo says, you might be able to get a shock that already has stiffer spring fairly cheap. I've seen on this forum people put GSXR and ZX springs on as a replacement
