Default New Fuel Tank *Problems* :(

Hello everybody!

I need a bit of help - my SV fell off her side stand (yes - i was parked on a 1 degree incline on my drive - never again) and i needed a new tank.

I took the old tank off and (2 months later) replaced it (today!).

I connected up the Fuel hose - the top breather and the bottom breather, then filled it with a gallon of fuel.

Problem is it wont start - it's turning over (or was till i flattened the battery) but doesnt fire.

did I:

a) flood it?
b) not give it enough time for the fuel to filter through before trying to start it (then flood it)?
c) something even sillier like "not connect the go pipe"!

Shes in the garage charging back up for another go at starting tonight - any help much appreciated (it's been 2 months and i'm itching to get back on her!)

Thanks,

Dante

Sure you also connected the vacuum line to the tap? If not it won't get any fuel at all.

(and the kill switch)

If in doubt, the manual is

Hi Embee,

I didnt at first - then i asked Mr Haynes and he showed me the error of my ways - just to check - the vacuum line is a fairly short (<20cm) pipe running into another *thing* (Mr Haynes is at home - not at work)...?

Is that why your battery's knackered

Thanks for the advice so far - i'll let you all know the outcome (you'll be up all night clicking 'refresh' - i know you will).

I guess the bottom line is it aint rocket science - and there are only three bits to connect up - as long as none of the lines are blocked it'll just take time (and battery power).

Thought i should add - shes being sold on Sunday so i need to get her started for that at least!

"...oh you want one of those SV's that actually runs?..."

Dante, make sure the valve on the tank is opening by attaching a tube to the vacumn part and sucking and seeing if petrol comes out of the other part, if it does then you know that's not the problem and you can move on.

Is your bike carbed or FI? If it's carbed then it's possible you've been unlucky and just not got enough juice into the bowls before your battery died. Give it a charge and try again. If it's FI I'd recommend the same thing, though I'd have thought it would have worked.

When was the bike last run?
