Good while back I bought a set of progressive forks from JHS racing and fitted them to my '99 SVS. As far as I can remember I replaced the oil with 15w to firm up the front end. I've felt the front end is maybe a little too firm now - especially riding the cr*p roads we have in Ireland. Would I be better off using 10w to soften up the forks a little?
Anyone else using 10w with the progressive springs from JHS? |

What weight are you? If you're not too heavy you should be using 10W oil, 15W is really only for heavier people on reasonable roads (I've seen some of your roads, like the bits where they fill potholes in with gravel). Also, have you set the preload correctly (i.e. sag)? You want 25-30mm sag with you on the bike. I'd suggest it's closer to 30mm, reason being the progressive springs are just that, so by the time you've would the adjusters in to give 25mm sag you've squashed all the softness out of the springs and guess what it's hard. The difference can be subtle so have a play with it.

I've got some progressives waiting to go in. How long was the preload spacer that you used and what laden sag did you end up with? It would save me a bit of hassle if I knew roughly how long to cut the spacers to get a start.
