Default Honda SP1 vs SV1000

I am considering a new bike this summer and was wondering if anyone (Rictus and Sid Squid will) knows the major differences between the SP1 and the SV1000... i would either be going for a used (obviously) SP1 or a new SV1000 (or at least very new used)... but i don't really know the major differences...

Thanks

Have a look at http://www.motorbikes.be/en/compare.aspx. It allows you to compare 2 bikes with all their specs.

SP1 is a sports bike, SV1000S is more of a sports tourer. SV has just over 100 mile tank range, SP1 is more like 90, less if you cane it.....

SP1 is focused and uncomfortable (it was built to win the WSB series), SV will tour Europe nicely....

Differences betwen an SP1/2 and an SV1000? Ummm...just about everything - they are both motorbikes though.

SP1: Brilliant at going very very fast, lousy at everything else, ******* uncomfy, side mouted rads shove loads of hot air up your arms and legs, great in the crap weather when you won't want to ride it cos of the snappy throttle, not so great in the weather you would want to ride it in.

Great bike really like them, never ever going to buy one: It's daft.

SV1000: Real world motorbike, damn good and works very very well, reasonable comfort, bizarre standard suspension settings, lovely characterful motor, not bad two up - engine wise you'll not know they're there - but when it comes down to it not the coolest thing ever and if that's what you want look elsewhere. If you want a GSXZXR1 don't buy an SV, you'll be disapointed, but if you want a bike good enough to embarass as one and cost less insurance, enjoy.

Ian.. thanks for the reply mate....

I ride for fun nowadays, if i ever have to commute then it is a matter of a couple of miles... Have spoken to one of my contacts in Taz Motorcycles about the SP1 as he had one.. and the first thing he said was to get a power commander on it to stop the twitchy throttle (which apparently is a huge nightmare under 3k). I just have this i MUST have one of those feelings about the SP now... dunno why... but i have a couple of bikes in mind, the SP1, SV thou, Aprillia RSV (2000 or later) or last choice the Firestorm.... (probably not the firestorm though, don't love the look of them.

Definately, the fuelling is snatchy in town/at low revs and the throttle is very light which coupled with the 'sporty' suspension makes for a jerky on/off throttle ride on a bumpy road.
SP2 better in this respect, but I'd say a PC was still a good move though.
