After a winter in a shed, I rode it home 10 miles with no problems.
A good going over, brake overhaul etc followed. I had the clutch cable off, lubricated it etc, refitted the cable and actuator (it was off for a few days in between) I have adjusted the cable exactly as per the manual, and I can feel the biting point at about the right place when I rock it... but it is dragging badly. I can hardly move it with it in gear and with the clutch in. I have tried over-adjusting it to no effect. It feels like the plates are sticking together. I am desperate for help. If I cant fix it ASAP I will miss out on a free trip to the Isle of Man this weekend, and if no joy withing a few days then Hoghton Sprint could be off too - unless I pay big bucks for a Suzuki-man to deal with it. Free drinks in Lancs for a solution that works. !! |

When did you last change the oil?Mine does that when the oil has been in too long.I dont know why but fresh oil worked wonders for my clunky gearchange, and it hadnt been in there for that long, about 4000 miles.

Your clutch plates could be dry but seeing as you rode it home 10 miles I'd be inclined to check all adjustments again.
Repeat after me there are no such things as Gremlins.... |

Well, thanks for these two ideas - more are still very welcome.
I will do the oil and filters tomorrow night, thanks for that one - it might help and it was on my to do list anyway. Then, once I have warmed her up I will try starting her up in gear and see if a short ride helps, or burning the clutch with the front wheel against a wall - anything to free it off. Wish me luck. The adjustments feel okay - biting point is in the last third of the lever, it just drags even when the clutch is fully in. If it all goes well, find me in the paddock at Hoghton Tower (lancs) on Sunday the 10th and I'll put the kettle on for you! I am chasing my own 8.39secs, my brother not far ahead on his RSVmille. A dynojet 1 kit and a smaller front sprocket might make it a bit more even up that hill, but only if I can free off those damn clutch plates |

When it's cold the clutch will drag a lot if you try to push it in gear. It's the way they are.
If you warm it up or ride it for a few miles, does it still feel the same? It should free off much better when the oil's at full working temp. |

You need to apply a few weeks before.
This year the secretary of the course is new, I will dig out his address for next year if you like, or you can ask to be added to the mailing list on the day?? Its a great event - VERY freindly and easy-going. I have been to other sprints (Swest) where scrutineering is a pain in the neck. Hoghton are more sensible. No licence needed, just leathers (one piece are best but zip-togethers still accepted) a newish lid (MUST have the current ACU gold label with the two borders) and a bike in good condition...not much else required. Cost is up a bit this year at 47 quid - still a bargain. Come and find me in the paddock. Yellow SV650 K3 ... number 181. if I can get a few SV owners to enter we can have a class/ cup of our own!! I am in 'unlimited' class anything over 600cc! - hopelessly out-gunned , never gonna win owt' but fun to do some giant-slaying. Dave |
