WD 40 works, i used a little mer before that seemed to work, but i wouldnt do it again as its abrasive! Pledge/MrSheen/etc work well they are very good degreasers and easier to take off than WD40

If it's something like an exhaust can a hand full of flour rubbed over it will pick up most of the grease the polish with a soft cloth.
