Still happy with my SV but I fancy a smaller capacity sports bike to 'mess about' on. Not riding but mechanincs wise.
I quite like the 400cc sports bikes (GSXR, ZXR, CBR) and have seen a couple on ebay that need work doing to them but I was wondering about the availabilty of parts for bikes like these? I know the work won't be easy but I fancy giving it a go. If I can;t do it then I reckon I could always sell it on for a small loss... |

brilliant fun bikes if you can find a minter. most thrashed by novices and been dropped a few times. Cosmetically, side panels etc are quite hard to get hold of or they can be expensive. engines wise, would'nt know much really. better ask somebody else.

I had an RS250 with the idea of doing the same. Took the panels off and soon realised I had no clue about bikes mechanically....put the panels back on made her look nice again and sold her.
I never rode her ![]() |

Personally, i wouldn't bother with a 400cc as 600cc bikes of a similar vintage will be LOADS cheaper and will *USUALLY* have more widely available & cheaper parts!

Plus the 400s are legendarily hard to work on...

I can speak from just three months working in a Honda Dealer... you wouldn't believe how much hassle it can be to get parts sourced to the imports. As the baby blade was only available in the UK for two years... the vast majority of them are imports.
![]() If you get a 400, get a UK model. That said, I had a ZXR = sooooo much fun. I was heartbroken when the engine died completely and was in need of a re-build - which I couldn't afford and had to then sell it. |

get a 400 come to scotland and race the damn thing, average lap times for the 400 boys round knockhill is about 60-70 seconds, which isn't that much different to what you'd do on the SV... the racing is good and we can all watch you crash, which is even better!!!
serriously of the 400's the only choices in my mind are the honda RVF 400 (if its in good condition) or the Kawasaki zxr-400 both are great bikes and handle superbly... the Honda will take more looking after cause its a V 4 but they sound great and look amazing with the single sided swingarm (they look just like their big brother)...
