Before I get flamed, I don't want to buy an ABBA stand for this one job...
To replace rear shock I need to raise the rear and unload the suspension. I have no abba stand available. Does anyone have a tip on how to this without a stand? I do have a beam I could suspend the rear subframe from, but not sure that wouldn't damage the frame. Also not keen on the bike being 'wobbly' hung like that. I have thought of a metal bar throught the swingarm pivot (can lift with paddock stand) on avel stands / breeze blocks. Cannot find a suitable pice of metal yet though. All tips appreciated. |

I had to do this on my mk1, as my shock failed at 16k miles.
I put the bike on the side stand and then used a trolley jack on the exhaust just behind the right footpeg. I might have used a block under the side stand too, can't recall. Another option I have used in the past is to insert two old engine bolts (long and strong) though the swing arm pivot and then placed the bike onto axle stands via the bolts. HTH JOhn

See my thread in Photos (Chain maintenance without paddock stand).
Stick something under the engine block for the bike to rest on. If you're worried about wobbling, if it's staying in your garage, I'm sure you could rig up some rope or something to hold the tail end of the bike suspended from the roof. A mate of mine does exactly that with his CB400. |

I put the rear up on the paddock stand then put to axle stands under the front peg brackets, then take paddock stand out, job done. Axle stands were £10 from Halfords.

If you have fixed pegs like on rearsets then just use a pair of axle stands if not the bar though the swingarm pivot would be my choice.

Cable tie front brake, full left lock, axle stand under right exhaust mount near footpeg. Be careful when you unload the rear (take out last bolt) as the C of G moves forwards - jack it up so the back wheel is only just off the ground not miles up. Then do it quickly! Slacken all the bolts before you start as well.

Its easy. Turn your bike upside down like you used to when you had a BMX
