Default Another Veypor review

So, just fitted the Veypor to my SK3. Took about 3 hours to do, including test rides and set-up, so not too bad at all. Especially when you realise it took me about 45 mins just to find 1 ignition coil, then I managed to tap the wrong wire.

Fitting was pretty easy, you just need to find an ignition coil (rear one is easier, follow the spark plug wire back and the coil is behind the bottom frame bar on the RHS of the bike, looking forward). You then use one of the self tappers to tap the black wire (rather than the black and orange) together to the white wire from the Veypor.
Power was easy, just attach to the battery terminals. I will be plumbing it in the rear light power to it is ignition switched though so that I don't need to keep pulling out the connector overnight.
Rear wheel sensor is superglued underneath the swingarm with the magnet on the sprocket, between 2 of the bolts so it has minimal centrifugal force trying to dislodge it. It didn't drill a recess into the sprocket so will wait and see how long it stays there!

The control box sits next to the battery at the moment, but may move it forward to get a bit more slack in the wire to the unit at the front. Wire routing is not a problem, to the side of the tank and airbox going forward and through the frame holes underneath the yoke (with all the other wires) and behind the frame and swingarm at the back.

Setting up took some trial and error - I used an RPM multiplier of 7 and had to measure the diameter of the rear tyre and calculate the circumference as no other useful measuring devices to hand. Seems to work OK though. Setting up the gears required lots of observation though as you have to ride along for 3 seconds at a steady speed in each gear before pressing enter on the unit to save the speed / rpm ratio as that is how it measures what gear you are in. Easy enough to plan ahead 3 secs at 6k rpm speeds in 1st and 2nd, 3-6 are a little harder. Thankfully the A316 was not too busy. Had to do this twice as the 1st lot didn't work - it thought I was always in 1st.

Pics to follow, but generally this unit is a great little toy so far - as Northwind says the upgrades on the firmware have made it more useable but IMO more buttons are needed - a couple of shortcut buttons for the more used functions would make it much better. Otherwise you're always in the menu looking for the function that you want.

I think this will be the dogs danglies with the HUD option, but not for me at an extra £200ish
