Default Ah hahaa!! Think my SV is sorted!

Took my SV to a mates house today for him to have a look at it, ref the smoking problems etc...

First up.. listening to it.. no rattles or knocks, doesn't sound anything unusual at all.

Tank off, airbox off and we notice that 1) air box isn't sealed on properly and 2) it's full of oil... so we use a air line to clean out all the breather hoses, then clean out the airbox and catch tank then finally clean the air filter out.

All bolts back together.. check a few other things and we notice that the oil filter isn't tightened up.. it was practically falling off, which HOPEFULLY explains the oil loss. Top her up with oil and alls well.

Next up, front brake.. is pathetically poor.. so it gets fresh fluid and nice fresh bleed... MUCH better, more feel and stops better although still not that great - braided lines required there!!

I mentioned the exhaust had an air leak and was blowing a fair bit.. so 2 seconds looking at it realises that none of it's fitted correctly.. the link pipes are 1.5 inches away from where they should be - must have worked itself loose or something - so exhaust off and link pipe put on properly, can adjusted and not only has it stopped it blowing BUT it's also moved the can back about 2 inches so it doesn't stick out any more also makes the bike sound nicer and OH MY GOD is it more responsive.. must be that and the air filter was causing some bogging problems as it didn't feel that great before.. but now it pulls a lot better and feels smoother as well as sounding better!!!

Last on the cards was to fix the left heel guard which was a bit wobbily, nothing a couple of washers didn't fix.

All in all, bike feels a LOT different, more responsive, smoother and just a lot nicer. As for the smoking, I'm hoping that it won't do it any more.. if it does still smoke then I guess it is the valve steam seals, but at the minute we're pretty confident theres nowt wrong with it at all!

No more wheelies for the SV...! I'm still selling it but not for a while, going to wait until I pass my car test then sell the SV to pay for the car and bike trailer for the KTM!!!

Well, that's provided it doesn't smoke any more!!

Anyway, thanks for all your advice and please pray that we've fixed it just with the simple maintenace that was done.

Oh only problem is the clutch now slips a lot but that'll be because of the mix of oil where it's been topped up a few times.. going to do an oil change soon and that should sort the clutch slip as well

Oil in the airbox is sometimes caused by over filling the amount of oil in the engine.

Hope the bike runs as you wnat it to now

Default hmm

Great news yams...except.....AFAIK once your wet clutch starts slipping because you put oil it doesnt like into it then changing the oil isnt going to fix it. as the clutch plates are knackered. I could be wrong depending on your situation......anyone wanna clarify?

Fired her up this morning and still loads of smoke seems now to be just white and doesn't smell as much though... it was bluey colour before. Don't know if that's good or bad.. I'll ride it a few days and see if the smoke stops or anything

Hey Alex, yeah a few people say the whtie smoke is just condensation and is fine.. so looks like my bike is sorted.. no more wheelies for me I don't think! Bike is back to excellent again, just gotta give it a quick clean and it'll be mint again

So happy that it seems to be fine!! Was really worried for a while but should be fine now

Don't worry about the stuff my mate had to do to it.. only took a few mins for us to get done so wasn't the end of the world They are v-twins so things probably work their own way loose with all the vibes I just gotta remember to check things are tight more often Got about 10 bolts to replace too

Hi mate, yea, glad u aint ****ed at me for not missing thoses bits, i struggled for ages with the exhaust and got it aswell as i could, but obvioulsy missed somat!! lol!

as for the oil filter!!!! i screwed it on as described and as i have always donee??? again appologies, least its sorted now!!

right the ccm!!!

well but it this way, i aint gonna have it for too long, its a lovely bike and since i have had it i have put the propper exhaust back on, repacked it, removed some of the disks, serviced it, changed the rear indicators, new tyres, cleand it properly and only done 175 miles!!!

its a loely bike, but needs some dyno time for settign it up properly, i havnt got the cash atm so im guesing with the settings, which is making run funny sum times, but u cant have everything,

its a nice bike, and i got it for v good money, so heres hoping i can sell it for at least what i bought it for come late august,

personally i feel like i should have bought the TL, but thats my own stupid fault, and i still feel like i would have ridden it v little for fear of crashing it!!

the right rear indicator was blown apart thismorning by the exhaust!! and i need to buy and fix a new one on this lunch time as i have a bike safe course to do!! so things i suppose are really ok, but not that great yet.... it still does funny things sum times, but when i have sorted the clutch (whatever that needs doing) and done valve clerances and put it on a dyno, ill be happy, untill then, im keeping my break down card with me!!

hope ur now happy again with the sv, and all stays well,
Alex
