Are you suggesting you want us fumbling about in your y-fronts if you have an off?

Baldyman.

I don’t have ideas, I don’t think I’ve ever had a true original, but I know a good one when I hear it, (it’s Tee-Jeys .). The only bit that’s mine is asking people to fill out the form and carry it. I thought that asking for everyone’s personal details was a step too far and a little School Teacher(ish).

The sad part of the story is that the other riders only new his forum name, this made it difficult for them to arrange to notify a home contact and for the recovery of his machine etc.

Now this may sound like tempting fate, however, I am a believer in that if there is a plan for the worse, the worse won’t occur.

I think this is a good idea. I had another thought

My Dad is VMCC member and when they go on a run like this they all have to sign on when the arrive at the start point, at the bottom of the sign on sheet is a legal disclaimer that they sign agreeing that they dont hold the person that is organising the run in away reponsibile for anything that happens to either themselves or the bike during the run. Previously they have had situation in the club where somebodies bike got damaged in an accident and he tried to sue the person that had organised the run for the damage caused to the bike it all got very nasty and expensive.

Now I am not for one minute implying that anybody on here would do such a nasty thing like that, but I dont know you and you dont know me

Just a thought..

We (the mods) were discussing just this the other day, unfortuantely it can be the insurance companies that will try to follow it up in a way such as this, none of us will have much say in the matter.

Anything you do organise, you need to ensure it does not include details of this forum. We do not want to get the owner and administrators of this website involved with any legal disclaimers that are not run past them, so it is easier just to leave them out of it.

My only thought on people signing a legal disclaimer, is that you have started the ball rolling by doing so: Making it clear that this is an organised rideout. It would be better if we could keep it to 'a bunch of friends meeting up for a ride'.

Thats the way I think it should be to, It was just a thought

If that is the case and we are going to print off the form thing and carry it with us, should we not remove the SV650.org forum logo from it ?

I think we should just abide by the disclaimers which are posted on the site and leave it at that. As Rupes says as soon as things start getting written down it gives anyone outside something to get their teeth into. And its starts a ball rolling and we will end up in a situation like they have on the GS sites. And thats sites with a plural which seems to be in part due to this...

We are just using this site as a group of mates to arrange to meet. Just like mates, someone will suggest whether to go, we agree and go that way. Theres no 'risk asssessment' etc and all that, no ones taking any responsibility, we are riding the same route on a map at our own risk., albeit in a group.

I for one want to keep it that way. my motives in this were just to make sure ths site wasnt held responsible, nothing more.

FWIW the one case I heard about on the GS site was unsuccessful in any case. Aparranetly the guy had to spend hard earned to defend it...but I dont know the ins and outs.

Just MO, good input all round tho chaps.

Thats probably not a bad idea. One never knows......

Im thinking of having a little laminated card amde. There was a guy launching a scheme on the web a while back for the same idea. he called it a NOK card. Btw (and this is a bit of a sideline but Rupes can tidy up here again ) I had some insurance with a firm called Dogtag and you got juts that with your policy number on it and a phone number and they held next of kin details. A good idea (but unfortuantely they dropped the m/c accident cover).
