Default New Jet Kit installation?

I just bought a Vance and Hines S4 full exhaust system for my 2000 Sv650..... The guy at the shop convinced me to get a jet kit as well.... i am installing the exhaust myslef, and was just wondering how difficult it would be to install the jet kit? Would it be better to just let the shop do it so they can tune it, or is it really gonna make a difference if i just put it in myself?

Any feedback would be great... Thanks, Jason.

What jet kit?
What size jets?
What filter you running?
Are you in CA?

If it's a dynojet kit you SHOULD be able to fit it yourself, instructions in the box or on the web....

Though IMO the DJ recommended settings are a load of rubbish, they were written for the original, useless K&N it seems. Factory Pro's one seems a little more up to date. Also IMO, the DJ Stage 1 kit is a ripoff, though the Stage 1&3 is much better.

If you chose to do it yourself, make sure you have 8 M5x10mm bolts to hand to replace the ones you'll destroy removing them It's fairly easy to fit the parts (though be warned removing the carb screws can be a beast) but to get a perfect setup you need a dyno really. It's worth swapping your filter before you do it, since the full system will be wasted without it.

Im not in CA, i think its a dynojet kit though i honestly dont remember... right now im running a stock filter though i am contemplating a snorkelectomy to complement the jet kit and full system(recommend by John's sv650 pages, you can search that on google to see what im talking about) but i am skeptical as to whether or not that would be a good thing....

as far as the nuts and bolts go, i think would have no problem pulling the carbs and puttin the new jets in ... I am just worried about making sure i have the right setup to complement my exhaust.... so if you think a dyno is necessary for proper tuning then might it be better to let a shop dork with it?

Well, you can get very close without, especially if you can find someone with a similiar setup who can give you a baseline, and you know the bike well enough to diagnose fueling issues...

Mine's not perfect but it's pretty close, I'll be taking it to the dyno at some point but it's more than good enough to ride on. Also, you can save yourself a bit of cash by having the parts fitted and a reasonable stab at the setup, reduces the time the dyno operator will spend on it.

Thanks for the advice... i think im gonna try and do it myself...... but what do you think about the desnorkle? it seems good to me, but i dont wanna do it if it could screw up the bike, but i figure if i have a full exhaust and rejetting then it should be fine..??

I don't have an opinion yet to be honest... The SV Riders are all mad for it, but like I say I don't know anyone over here who's made it work, which makes me wonder. So I'll try it myself before I have an opinion.

Here's the thing, you lose absolutely nothing by trying it yourself unless you manage to break something... Just a few hours of your time (if you get it really adly wrong you might hole a piston or something, but you probably won't)
