Default Little help/advice/ideas?

Been lurking round here for a while cadging tips (thanks everyone!) but now have to de-lurk and ask a question.

SVS curvy got all it's plastics smashed to bits in December by a nice lady in a VW who couldn't be bothered to wait at the lights anymore, or indicate, or stop afterwards

Anyway, rebuilding in a Stealthy streetfighter style. Plastics painted up, LSL handlebar kit on, new brake lines, clutch cable and then new tank sourced from breaker painted and swapped in, been quite an adventure!

Despite general level of inept-ness when I stuck the key in it started, hurrah, and it moves and it stops, but it also rattles.

I've finally identified the cause and it's the pipe that connects to the drain hole under the filler cap, or rather doesn't connect. The pipes loose and banging on the tank underside!!! Leaving a nice direct route for water into the tank.

Question is how do I reconnect the bl**dy thing? I'm assuming it was welded on originally, but it's pretty inaccessible.

So, er, help, please!

If there's any of the tube left, a stub on the lower side of the filler recess, you could just use a piece of fuel hose to connect it to the pipe, if not, I can't imagine how it would reliably be done short of welding, and I can't think of anyone who's going to want to weld your petrol tank. You could always plug the top end - in the recess - and the bottom end - by the tank hinge - of the pipe, and bend the pipe away from the tank top side so it doesn't rattle, but this does risk getting water from the recess in the fuel, which is why the drain is there of course.

If it's reachable I suppose you could try Araldite, the tube is just a drain from the filler recess so is under no pressure, but I think you're going to need another tank.

that's about right, seen two tanks like this, I couldn't fix them, so binned them and got better ones.

Cheers Mark.

Cheers guys, got all clever last night mucking around with hoses and things to try and lock the two together, none of it worked, ended up just superglue-ing the pipe back into place.

As far as I can tell (the 'net is a wonderful thing!) the active ingredient in the glue and petrol shouldn't have any problem with each other, so really it's a case of how long the bond can withstand the vibration. Probably not long but for the time being it should be OK, on the plus side it doesn't rattle anymore!

Having a) just got a new tank and b) had it painted, getting another one in the near future doesn't appeal very much. Long term I guess I'll have to.

Now if that streetfighter fairing would get here I could get back on the road!
