Default MORE POWA!!!

Just been reading through this here wonderful forum a bit and it seems lots of guys and girls do stuff to tickle a few more bhp out of their SVs.
I can't quite understand it to be honest. Why buy an SV in the first place? I got one cause it's got all the power i can handle (more or less) responsibly.

By the time your SV's got 80 or 90 hp won't you have spent more than if you just got an inline 600 that has 110-130 (Kwaka) hp to begin with?
To each their own, i'm not saying it's silly or anything. Just wondering. 'Because you can'?

because when you buy a bike it's not just about the power figure.
oh, and plus, it's fun to mod.

I am with Carsick on this. There are only a few mods generally done to the SV to squeeze a bit more out of her. Most mods tend to be involving upgrading to better spec parts and a touch of personalising. It is not about transforming the bike in to a IL4 replica.
I think if a poll were taken of SV owners and the question was..."Given the choice would you opt to change your end can to give a more fruity sound with no power gain to be experienced or retain standard exhaust but gain an extra 10bhp?" I would be most surprised if the majority did not nod for the fruity sound. But then again what the f*ck do I know?

its more to do with the feeling with owning a v twin. the sound and the vibrations are nothing like what you get with an inline 4

No!

My old SV650 SK3 showed 83bhp at the crank on the dyno and all I'd done to it to get that was to change the end can (not a full system), add a K&N air filter, do the TRE & TPS mods and get it re-mapped... A total cost of about £300... Not the thousands different to get to a Supersport 600!

I didn't do the mods purely for power increases, although it was nice to get some! I wanted to make the bike my own and had spent more on accessories for it (db screen, heated grips, Gilles rearsets, etc.) than on the mods which contributed to power increases.

The reason I bought the SV was that I was new to riding, having just passed my test so didn't want something I would go out & kill myself on, but I did want something that would grow with me. I am also yound, so the fact that insurance is somewhat costly, I needed a bike that was cheap to insure but that wasn't boring or 'orrible to look at! The SV was all of this. I was looking to change to a different bike (possibly a supersport 600) this year but after my accident, the issue was forced somewhat, so I now have a Triumph T595 Daytona.

I feel that I learned more on the SV in my first year of motorcycling than I would have on a SS600 bike and I also enjoyed modifying it!

Personally I've only done it because I really like to mess with things, and I enjoy having a tuned bike (it's always nice to surprise people on superports hardware from time to time). It makes no sense from a purely power-seeking point of view, though.

Also, I really like the SV... Even now there's very few bikes I'd rather have- well, lots I'd love to have in the garage but not many I'd want to use day-in, day-out all year round. The SV's the perfect blend of character, power and practicality for me, which makes it the perfect base for a modding project. The Hornet is very similiar, but I prefer twins so I chose the SV over it.

Because I knew that I'd end up messing with any bike I got, I deliberately got one far within my total budget to allow for meddling afterwards

Sig...You tempt me beyond what would normally be considered to be fair! I have decided to resist through clenched teeth! The location trade is proving to be something of a dilemma though! Enjoy your time over here!

When your over here Joe Bar on the main coast road across from La Cala,(2nd right after La Cala turn off) is just down the road from Fuengirola,(heading west towards Marbella/Gib) great hang out for bikey peeps. Saturday or Sunday afternoon's are best. Great place to watch a Moto GP the start time locally is 2.00pm.

If you want a nice ride out head again towards Gib.Pass Puerto Banus on your left and first lights swing a right on to the famous Ronda Road. You will then be able to travel my regular test track.About 15km up you will come to a "venta" (Spanish style café,no frills, great food for next to nothing!)which is located to the left on a right hand bend.Very popular with us bikers.Again weekends are best and p.m. After spending a while there carry on and go have a look at Ronda itself. Some great views from the bridge over the gorge leading in to the town.

P.s.If you do head to either of the meeting places mentioned I could pop along for a cola with yer?
