Is there any reason why I shouldn't use a champion oil filter from Halfords?
I wanted a suzuki original, but the shop is closed. My bike is out of warranty anyway. Does anyone else use spurious parts? |

Nope, I've always used a Champion K301 on my K1, just under six quid from Halfords.

Believe it or not, The suzuki shops here don't even stock original parts like oil filters so go for it.

I've read about 'everlating' washable oil filters. Anyone got any comments on them? I doubt I'd use one till the bike was out of warranty, but they look like a good long-term cost saving (if they don't knacker the engine!)

i heard about those reusable filters...Stainless steel, high flow, improved filtration over stock paper filament. Curious myself...Scotts Performance makes one of those filter, anyone have any experience on them?
Last i checked, they stold for around $100.00 (US dollars). Easily cleaned tho...lil bit of carb/brake cleaner are effective...so i hear... |

Engine manufacturers do work closely with filter manufacturers (been there) and there are quite a few aspects to filter construction which can affect the lifetime performance.
For an insight have a look at http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil_filter_study/ While there are numerous well respected filter manufacturers, FWIW I always use OE spec (i.e. Suzuki) filters just because it's a known quantity. You can save a couple of quid with alternative filters which may well be perfectly OK, but it's difficult to know for sure. As for washable/everlasting filters, don't go there. Original spec filters work just fine if they're changed regularly. Just my 2p. ![]() |
