Default Squeak!

Left work today and suddenly I hear an almighty squeaking noise coming from back wheel area.

It's a real oily (or lack of) squeak and not a brake squeak.

Is there a quick fix for this as I don't think there's going to be time to get it fixed for the rideout on saturday!!

take into this that I know nothing about repairing bikes so taking things apart is probably not going to happen.
I'm concerned about it locking up if its a bearing or something whilst going to/doing the rideout

id suggest wheel bearings . . . cant think of anything round that area that could cause a squeak.

check your brake pads to make sure there isnt a stone caught in there, or a mouse in your exhaust ?

can i run some engine oil or something around the area to try and lube it or is the bearings area sealed? If it happened last week I could get it into a garage but there isn't time now

i wouldnt say so really.

basically, my theory (it is only a theory mind) is that one of your bearings go, a bearing, is a hollow dounut type thing, with lots of little ball bearings inside packed with grease, these balls move about to make the wheel move round(thats where all the friction goes)
basically, i recon that one of these ball bearings has become crushed or given way under usage, causing a sqeak,

so i recon, if this is the case, it could be a new bearing
no fear, its a very easy job to do yourself.

where exactly is the sqeak coming from ? , and does it occur whenever you turn the wheel round ? or just under the engine.

wait for someone else to come along and suggest some things before you go out and buy the bearings tho, as i could be very wrong indeed.
